I take a multi, a probiotic* and a calcium+d pretty regularly. Sometimes I take centrum fruit/veggie just for funsies. I just got bloodwork done and am the epitome of health, so I'm not sure what's helping but it's an easy and cheap enough routine that ill keep it up unless something drastic happens.
*i have been having bizarre GI problems as of late so I'm testing out the probiotic thing. I'm slightly less bloated/gassy but not sure if its due to probiotics or cleaning up my diet again.
'Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather, to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming 'Woohoo! What a ride!' So every day is a holiday and every meal a feast."
I used to take a multivitamin for women, just the walgreen's brand (I think equivalent of One A Day), which had calcium and iron.
Clearly this was not enough.
Right now I take a multivitamin with no calcium or iron, calcium + vit D (because D was also low), and approximately 1 horseshoe worth of iron. It's a pain because I can't take the iron with either of the other two and I am taking it 3x a day.
Do you take any supplements or vitamins on the regular? A daily multivitamin (centrum) and a fish oil supplement
Why? My doctor recommended the fish oil b/c when I had my cholesterol checked about a year ago, my HDL was only 20 (less than 40 is considered too low). When I had it rechecked this year, my HDL was up to 50, so it is doing its job. The multivitamin as an "insurance policy" in case I don't get everything I need via diet.
What are the benefits and drawbacks? Benefits: hugely improved my good cholesterol numbers. Drawback: they can be a little pricey? I haven't had any stomach/burpy issues at all.
Even though you're not a doctor, you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so what is one thing you recommend others take? I don't like to give blanket recommendations for everyone. In general, I think that people take a lot of unnecessary supplements.

I was tested a while back and was anemic, so I took iron and vit c for a while. I figured it was due to the fact that I had had my period for 4 weeks when I was tested (boo PCOS) and stopped taking them. I've been feeling sluggish lately and I'm thinking about starting it up again to see if it helps. I definitely don't get enough iron in my food since I don't eat much red meat, etc.
I also take Glucosamine with Chondrotin & MSM for my crackly knees, b12 to help my metabolism &energy and a multi vitamin to cover all my bases

Multivitamin, fish oil, calcium and probiotic.
General health, high cholesterol runs iny family - fucking DNA, and grm has ostoporosis. And I have IBS. I take iron on and off, depends what the blood work shows.
Do you take any supplements or vitamins on the regular? Iron, and Multi vitamin. Eat an iron rich diet.
Why? Anemia
What are the benefits and drawbacks? Benefits: energy, ability to recover, motivation to work out etc. Drawbacks...every once in awhile the iron make it hard to poo. Also, honestly remembering to take the vitamins is hard for me.
Even though you're not a doctor, you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so what is one thing you recommend others take? I tell people to do things in moderation and if they feel sick then they should really go to a real doctor. I'm just a quack who thinks milkshakes fix stress fractures.
