Sweet Andrew! You poor thing! I hope the antibiotics do their thing ASAP! Muppet, you're on your game! I totally would've brushed it off as diaper rash.
Double (triple?) whammy. It was a bug bite that was irritated on his leg. That has nothing to do with what's going on in the crotchular region. Andrew has regular old strep AND perianal strep. I didn't realize that kids could get strep down below, but apparently they can. That's what's causing the rash that is radiating from his loins right now. They did a swab of the rash and his bum, and they did a typical throat swab. Both came back super positive. Poor kid. 10 days of antibiotics, lots of vaseline to help the irritation, and several days of missed gym classes and play-dates to avoid sharing our germs, and we should be back to normal.
I was going to suggest that it might be strep earlier; Kate just got over not too long ago. Like you, I never knew you could get strep below. After what seemed like a never ending diaper rash (that came out of nowhere), I took her to the pedi and she was diagnosed with it. It will start clearing up within a few days. I hope he feels better!
Oh my gosh! Poor A!!! Huge hugs to you guys and I hope that rash and bite heal very quickly.
I saw someone mentioned West Nile. Please don't have that in the back of your head... The rash I had with WNV looked nothing like that. Not even close.

Ack! When he does something, he goes all out! Sorry, Muppet. I hope the antibiotics help quickly!
