frkls, can you maybe order a supplementary course? My mom made us do these stupid courses called GRASP in the summer, which were supposed to keep our skills up. Maybe you could just order a math/science homeschool course and go slowly through it during the year?
YES we ALWAYS had to do workbooks over the summer.
I think I was in 5th or 6th grade before I learned not everyone had summer homework like that.
Stupid garbage company came waaaay to early today, like before 9 and our garbage wasn't out yet, they don't normally come until after 3. The clerk at our township office is not confident they will even call her back. Ugh.
I have had the beginnings of a migraine for two days and nothing is helping. Maybe more caffeine?
Ds has his first baseball practice tonight, he is so excited! His season was cut short because of having his appendix out .
I'm not aiming this at anyone specific because I'm all about giving people support when they it but when a new poster posts a post (ha!) about something sad that doesn't even directly impact them I sort of give them the side eye.
I side eye anytime anyone does it. Your third cousin twice removed read an article that the price of tea in China is affecting the cost of their sprockets in Russia. What? And why the fuck does anyone care?
Double side eye if a person dies, a pet dies or a ghost appears in the story.
I've got the option to interview for a position tonight that pays garbage and I am grossly overqualified for. The girl at the recruitment place was reluctant to send them my resume because she knows I'd be bored and likely move on quickly. I almost feel guilty for convincing her to give me a shot at the interview, because I know she's 100% right and I'll be out of there for the next thing that comes along.
the temptation to homeschool grows every freaking year. we went to open house last night where we saw a plastic bin in the classroom labeled "science center." i pointed it out to jonah and turned to his teacher and told her that jonah LOVES science. loves loves loves science. the teacher informed me that they don't do much with the center since they "won't be doing much science this year." i got home and was reading the teacher's "handbook" for her class and it goes on for pages about the reading requirements and a little about math. at the very bottom of the page is 2 sentences about how their reading/spelling/phonics/etc requirement is such that they will not have time for science or social studies. they will read about those subjects in their language arts stories but wont' be doing anything hands-on. i hate this
You can thank No Child Left Behind for this BS. Blah. I hate it and am sure your son's teachers do as well. Mandates schmandates.
H's birthday is tomorrow, and I had planned a surprised get-together at H's favorite restaurant. Everyone is backing out. It makes me sad that our closest friends can't find time to spend with H on his birthday. They've had 2 weeks notice!

I got up and went to the gym at 5:30 this morning. Here's hoping this is the start of something for me.
H's youngest sister's bridal shower is next month. I just looked at her registry and she registered for a pregnancy test and ovulation kit. Do people really do this??
