Do not panic. I had 2 awesome inductions at 38 and 39 weeks, for medical purposes.
Induction 1: started at 7 pm, epi at 4 cm around 2 am, pitocin at 4 ish am, pushed for an hour, baby out at around 10:30 am.
Induction 2: started cervadil at 7 pm, epi around midnight, fully dilated by 5:15 am (the baby had actually started heading out and it was only because i insisted the nurse check me that i didn't deliver on accident on the table) no pitocin needed. Pushed for 5 minutes.
Lots of well wishes for a quick and easy delivery for you! Good luck!
Induction causes autism? I'll have to look at that post. I was induced at 38 weeks and it took 4 days off and on pitocin and anything else the midwife wanted to try.
I can't go back into that autism post. We're supposed to be at the hospital at 6:30 am tomorrow, and I'm freaking out. I know I can refuse (or just not even go) - ATM there's no medical "need", beyond that I'm overdue (40+6 tomorrow), and it's the standard for the practice.
I'm trying not to panic, and need some positive stories, please.
I don't have any stories, but thank you for posting this, I also need to hear about good experiences. I was being monitored for pre-e Sunday night and yesterday and spent most of that time FREAKING OUT thinking I would be induced last night. Anyway, I seem to only have gestational hypertension, but they still probably want to induce me next week.
Anyway, good luck! I hope your labor goes well whether its spontaneous or induced.
I was induced at just over 41 weeks. I had been 1cm dilated for about 5 weeks no progress so I was expecting to get some kind of ripening agent. Luckily I arrived for induction at 2cm so they went straight to pitocin, a low dose. My water broke spontaneously just 3 hrs later and I delivered another 6 hrs after that. My baby is only 4 wks old so obviously I don't know if she's on the spectrum or not but my birthing experience was definitely a positive one.
Mine was fine. It was 26ish hours from start to finish but it was fine, more boring than anything. The worst part was being hungry, and that hour and a half where I should have gotten my epidural but was trying to handle it on my own (fuck that, I will have an epidural immediately if I have any more children). My DS has a speech delay but not autism if that helps.
My suggestion is to bring food and hide it, because they don't like to feed you. I know, its in case you need a C-section or they don't want you to throw up or whatever, but i was starving and needed strength to push later. DH brought a tray of sugar cookies that i hid in the bathroom. Also bring some movies or Netflix or something to pass the time.
I was induced. Cervidal at 9pm, contractions and on and off sleep until 7am, epi at 7am (I LOVED my epi). I slept on and off until 2, when they broke my water manually since I was dialated enough. I reached 10 at four, and I pushed for two hours. The epi made pushing more difficult only because I could feel nothing because of the epi, which I highly prefered.
The only complication we had was that DS didn't breathe on his own for a few minutes. Scary, yes, but the NICU nurses were there before I even knew anything was wrong. Also, he extubated himself within a few minutes of recieving the breathing tube, so now H tells everyone our kid is a badass.
Honestly, I loved my induction. I hope there is more research about the autism link, but for me, it was a good experience.
It was 19 hours from hearing "you're getting induced today" until Kirklette was in my arms. I actively pushed for 4 hours. However, there was no pain, sweat, screaming, tears, nothing. When I thought I could feel my legs, I paged the anesthesiologist. Other than the induction being a surprise, the whole thing was uneventful.
YES. Forgot about that part. With induction 1, I started getting kind of uncomfortable, and since i'm a huge wimp, I asked for a bolus of the epidural. thinking that I was still a good ways away from pushing, they gave it to me. Turns out I progressed pretty quickly after that, and was pushing like 20 minutes later. The OB was like "ok, the baby's crowning, this is the part that is going to hurt the worst, probably burning, blah blah blah." I was all "nope! I'm good to go! When's breakfast, I'm HUNGRY!" Seriously felt NOTHING, but was still able to push.

I wasn't sweaty or screaming or crying either. That is why I loved the induction. We stayed on top of the pain, and I was fully aware and calm the whole time, which for me, made it easier to concentrate on listening to the doctor and nurses.
My cervix was closed tight at 41 weeks so I had a cervadil induction. Cervadil at 5 pm, contractions started around 9pm, epi around 11pm, water broke spontaneously around 5am and DS was born at 10:36am after 20 minutes of pushing.
P.S. I would totally be induced again. I was only two days over due (I had the choice of the date I was induced and a later date. I picked the one where I knew the on call doctor).
Paging orriskitten! She had a great induction and has a great baby to show for it
Hi! I'm not from around here but happy to share!
I was induced at 39 weeks for medical reasons (diabetes) and it was a breeze! Got cervadil placed at 10:50 PM, went into the hospital at around 3cm which I had been for about 2 weeks. Got an epi at 3 AM because everyone kept saying "this is going to be a long while, sleep now" and I couldn't sleep, even though I was only about 5cm. Mind you, I wasn't in horrible pain compared to what I've heard from other ladies, but I sure couldn't sleep. Water broke at 3:45~AM on its own. Doc came in at 6 AM and checked me, 9 cm. 6:47AM Melody was born after 30 mins of pushing.
I never needed to go on pitocin. I was sooooo scared, but it really went so much better than I could have imagined. Not sure about the autism discussion and don't plan on digging and possibly getting angry, but Melody is healthy, thriving and delightful (when she is not teething or having a cold she caught from me )
Good luck!! And just think, labor is one very very short period of time and done, then you get the baby for forever
I was induced at 39 weeks 4 days because I was a giant stressed mess with depression.
I wasn't dialated or effaced at all but with the medicine my water broke at 5:30 am. I told the nurse around 1:00 pm that my son was coming and they didn't believe me. He was born at 2:57 pm.
They were doing construction in the room above me and the bathroom ceiling was coming down, I was pretty much out of it because they gave me benydrl to sleep and an intern who had only been there 5 days delivered him.

I was induced at exactly 40 weeks. It went perfectly well and I progressed pretty quickly. I got the cervadil at 7pm which basically did nothing. At 7am the next morning I was given pitocin. I was fully dilated by 1pm but had to wait for D to come down a little bit more (or something) before I started pushing. I did push for 4 hours but that was because she was face up, I don't think it had anything to do with the induction though. I did get an epidural because the pitocin contractions were right on top of each other, but once I got that I was fine.
I was induced for #2. 3 hours active labor, didn't get drugs, and I didn't think it was any more painful than my "natural" labor with #1. You'll be great!
I went in at 6:00 p.m. They started cervadil at 10:00, and I was supposed to have it in for 12 hours but they ended up taking it out earlier because I started dilating pretty well without it. I got my epidural around 1-2 am. Fully dilated around 10:30 (and slept through most of it!). Started pushing around 11:00 and ended up taking a break around 1:00 (which totally sucked because my body wanted to push so badly). I had DS at 2:14 and the reason I ended up pushing for 3 hours was because the cord was wrapped around his neck.
Besides the pushing, it was a breeze.
Eta: I was contracting on my own so no need for pitocin.
I didn't read the autism thread yet, but I was induced at 40W3D. I had a wonderful experience and DD is just fine. I had no medical reason to be induced, I just wanted to since I was overdue (I had a wedding to photograph in a month, not wise planning on my part). I had an epidural and after that it was smooth sailing. Try not to worry!
