The whole "Amber Alert" thing is helpful and good to pay attention to when it's extreme cases like kidnapping, missing elderly/mentally-challenged, and random dissappearances, but sometimes I see them and just roll my eyes thinking it's a waste of time.
It says they won't say how the 2 year old and 19 year old are related, but just look at the matching duckfaces in the pictures... it's OBVIOUS she's the mom! That's not a pair I would worry about looking for, since it doesn't seem like kidnapping (although there are no other details provided for the disappearance).
Just kind of irks me, especially when cases like this end up being a runaway case and not foul play, because it takes away from those situations where it really is a true emergency situation.
I'm going to have to disagree big time, love. What if that woman isn't the mom? What if she doesn't have custody because she has severe mental issues? What if she abuses the hell out of that baby? What if the baby needs special medication and the mother doesn't give it to her?
There's probably a good reason why there was an Amber Alert sent out. For some reason, this woman is NOT supposed to have this baby.

Then I feel like it would be more beneficial to state EXACTLY the reason they are looking for them... whether she doesn't have custody, is wanted by the law, or whatever. The basic, minimal information provided doesn't incite me to think the kid is in danger in any way.
They do provide information on kids when they are clearly taken by other relatives in almost all other cases I see. If she's old enough to breed, she is old enough to take off with her kid if she chooses to at the age of 19, unless there's a warrant related to abuse. Just sayin' it doesn't seem like a helpless situation to me.
I do agree with you that more information is needed. However, if she's doing drugs and has lost custody, it may not be safe for that child to be with her. People on hard drugs like the comments suggest she is on do not make wise decisions. People have been known to give their toddlers to drug dealers and trade sex for drugs. Whatever is going on was bad enough that a judge took custody away from her, and that says something. Many judges tend to lean towards keeping children with their mothers, even in less than ideal situations.

To be honest, I didn't even scroll down for the comments before I posted, but now that I went back and read them... um, the racist remarks are uncalled for.
I'm sure I'd be able to recognize those duckfaces if I saw them again, so in the case that I do happen to stroll by them, I'll make an attempt to report it. It's super unhelpful when they don't even post a vehicle description, though. I actually do pay attention to vehicle descriptions and put plates in my "notes" on my iPod to look out for if they are local disappearances.
Without your wisdom and feedback, otterama, I'd have just scrolled over it thinking the kid is probably safer with the mom in an unknown place than a lot of other missing children around this state. I still think it's odd to use an "amber alert" with such little information pertaining to the harm of the situation.
