Yes. It is one of the highest ranked in the state. However, with that said, there are better schools in the district than others. Z will be in kinder in an excellent elementary but I'm on the fence about the middle and high school we're zoned to. Still great schools compared to others though.
Plus, the district is open concept and there are lots of students in a class (so I hear). I grew up in an open-concept school and did fine, but i've had several friends express concern. We'll see how kinder goes and determine if to stay in the public system or go private.
As are the scores of students who are EL, have low literacy rates, free & reduced lunch, etc. SpEd is just one data point in an overall metric, and not all SpEd scores are low.
In some areas, SpecEd or ESL student may not be required to complete the tests, or sometimes a school will organize a "special activity" and these students will "coincidentally" miss testing to skew scores.
Seriously? Aren't there special education students in virtually all public schools?
You're going to "assume" the special ed kids are lowering the rating for an entire school system? What an assinine comment.
Speicial education students' state/district tests are factored into the overall schools test percentage and therefore rating. Many people don't know this. It's not fair is it? But it happens. It's not assinine it's the truth.
Do you honestly feel like you just dropped some knowledge on me? Seriously? I know the scores for special ed children are factored in, my point is that there are special ed students in ALL districts therefore, their test scores should have a negligible impact on the overall rating of an entire school system.

I was fortunate enough to win the lottery for a neighboring school district which is much better than the one I live in. J can now go there until he graduates High school.
It's very good, but is surrounded by excellent school districts, which makes me feel like I might as well be letting my kids learn everything from Spongebob, at times.
