No utility room. Our washer and dryer are in a little, tiny room off of the kitchen and when we moved in I thought "Oh, nice. No basement laundry". I fucking hate the sound of the dryer and by the end of the weekend I could go postal if it needs to be turned back on after I think I am done.
The only things that really bother me are structural, the things I cannot change. I like houses with separate rooms, and really dislike big open concepts with massive foyers. I mostly dislike new houses, unless they're custom builds that are to specs that I like. I'm not a fan of the new style of landscaping with mostly rock and desert plants. (@guyonabuffalo), this is huge in your area, I guess because of climate? Plus, are you moving?)
Yes, we are moving back into town. I've had enough country living. Lol. I agree, I hate rock/desert plant landscaping. Our new place has a lot of that in the back yard, so we're going to rip it out and put in a real garden.
Oh you have no idea... Our first home was purchased on a tiny budget, I have seen LOTS of wacky things. Also when we rented our first apartment the flooring in the bathroom was carpet SAMPLES over the sub floor. DH laid down laminate in that one.
Imagine the bacteria living in that carpet
I'm not a fan of this either. I don't even understand why the homes are built this way. Two of the houses my parents have lived in have had carpeted bathrooms. In the first house, all that bathrooms were carpeted. In this house, it's just in their master bath. The toilet area is separated area with a door and there's laminate flooring in there.

This is really important for water conservation if you actually live in a desert. Having grass lawn and high water needs landscaping is incredibly wasteful. Especially in a drought, when there farmers getting cut off from irrigation water and small town wells going dry.
I had to google split foyer homes. I've never seen those around here but 99% of the homes here are brick.
The things we had to have when buying a home were large garage (it's attached), open floorplan, a lot of windows and natural light and all wood floors. We got it all.
The only thing I can really agree with in this thread is carpet in the bathroom/kitchen. That is really weird.

Absolutely. I just think it looks so...dry. Lol.
I love it, because all I see is hundreds of gallons of water being saved.
Ditto carpet in the bathroom. I hate blinds. Hate them. Especially the long ones that go on a slider door. Blah. I can't wait to own a house again and have curtains.

Cookie cutter houses/zero lot lines Garage as focal point Mansard roofs Outer walls with no or awkward window placement I agree about two-story pillars with no second-floor balcony - it looks weird to me Brass Converted garages
There are probably more, lol.
I grew up in a house with carpeted bathrooms - my parents built it, though, and we were older so it's not like we were potty-training, lol. Their rationale was that they hated putting their feet on cold tile in the winter. It's not something I would choose, but I don't think it'd be a deal-breaker. It's an easy enough reno.

-McMansions built in older neighborhoods -Sunswept lawns with no trees, shrubs, flowers etc..you can tell the builders have ripped out all the natural landscaping in favor of grass -Non-native landscaping

The only thing I can think of that I really dislike are plastic houses in gigantic suburban developments with new trees, sodded grass or no vegetation.
For people that hate front loading garages I have to imagine you live in LCOL areas. The only houses I have ever seen with side garages are enormous houses on big lots which here would be close to million dollar homes. I definitely prefer a side loading garage but we were lucky to be able to afford a house with a garage at all so I will take what I can get.
I really dislike split foyers. I have seen them done really nicely but I just don't like the tiny entry are. Also I don't like really dark kitchens. That is more just personal preference though it isn't a hatred.
I think my entire house is described throughout this thread lol. I have an attached garage in the front (3 car actually-focus hog), two-story foyer, two-story living room, master down and other bedrooms up, and a cat walk. Those are all literally my favorite things about the house. An attached garage keeps the garage cool in Texas heat. SO Y'ALL CAN ALL KISS MY ASS OK?! Lol jk
I loathe split level, brass, and carpet in the bathroom (gag).
I refuse to buy a house where the kitchen cabinets don't go all the way to the ceiling. Do you know how NASTY it gets up there? What a waste of space.
Also, a stove needs two, useable counter spaces on either side of it. Putting it up against a wall or refrigerator (or free floating, WTF?) makes it impossible to use. I generally blame this on shoddy kitchen renos though.
Ditto everyone else on the "welcome to my garage" houses. The garage can face the front of the house but it needs to be flush with or behind the front face of the house.
I hate, hate, hate houses with too few windows, hap haphazardly placed windows, and dark houses. Especially ones with very closed in floor plans. If I wanted to live in a crypt, I would live in a crypt.
I really don't like cookie cutter houses. You know, the really big ones that all look the same and they basically have no character what so ever.
