I have a very small frame so all of me is long and thin. I did notice in one of my race pictures that my legs have some muscle tone now that I've been running for over a year. Sadly, my thin frame hasn't seem to help me much with distance running. I am still quite slow.
My thighs on the other hand, they are larger. I have always had large thighs and a smaller upper body. For me it's genetic. I was really happy with how they looked right before I got pregnant. I am hoping this 1/2 marathon training cycle will help me get back there.
My legs are long in relation to my body, but my body as a whole is short & a little stumpy. But, I like my legs - they are muscular and toned and they take me far without much complaining
Short. How muscular they are depends on how much strength training I am doing. I don't have the body ideal for any sport, but that's okay. I could do without the cellulite.
my legs are one of my best physical features. muscular but not too the point that it's hard to find pants.
that said, I feel like the size of my calf muscle is mostly dictated by genetics. everyone on my dad's side of the family has the same well defined calves and most are overweight/obese.

I have read that distance runners tend to remain less muscular than sprinters because they run more total distance and their bodies are always in a state of repair with heightened levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Because of that, it's difficult to put on additional muscle. Distance runners also have to carry as little weight as possible due to their endurance races, whereas sprinters need muscle to build speed quickly and to cut through wind.
A lot of it really is genetic. I'm tall and lean and am pretty good with distance events. The more I run, the better leg definition I'm getting. It really took marathon training to finally see my quads become defined.

Ginormous, especially when you consider the lack of length in the equation. Thanks to my mother, I'm genetically predisposed to carry most of my weight in my bottom half. Add in swimmer thighs and naturally bulky calves, and what you've got is ridiculous looking legs - but they're strong and float well.
My legs are pretty long and lean. My quads are the largest/most defined part of my legs. I'm a distance runner, but not an accomplished one by any means =)

I am short, 5'3" but have wonderful sculpted legs, have had them my whole life but they have gotten even better during marathon training. Thin but defined. My stomach has stayed the soft doughnut it's always been.
My calves are pretty well defined which may be due to running but probably more to do with genetics. My mom has the same calves which she attributes to Irish step dancing - 60 years ago. Sorry to tell you mom, but I don't think muscles stick around that long, so I say genetics. My thighs could use a little help. I'm looking at you, cellulite.
True story: my husband and I measured our quads last night. My quads are the same size as my H's LOL
This is not shocking to me, given the workouts you do. I would bet that mine are the same size or larger than H's. I'm sure he loves your legs.
I am fairly short, so my legs are kind of stocky. I played soccer for many years and have sprinter legs. I also do a lot of weightlifting, which has done a lot to tone them, but nothing to make them smaller.
Mu legs are short and thick. Both of parents have short, thick legs, so it was inevitable. I think that getting into running slimmed them down slightly, but it's hard to tell.
