He was admitted today, so I assume he's just under observation right now. My mom hasn't told me anything else yet. She loves to give cryptic text messages, then not reply or answer her phone.
Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the kind words and hugs. I wish my mom would get back to me!
I hope him being "safe" for the next few days can give you a tiny bit of comfort, but I imagine it doesn't really, that it just continues to add stress.

Talked to my brother. This time he wasn't sleeping (usual) and talking to the animals (who seem to be talking back). He decided not to take his medication properly, because it's too expensive, and started to mix his with my moms.
My mom pretty much told him he had to be admitted.
Good for her.
Maybe he won't be on suicide watch this time. That'll make me feel a little better.
Oh my. I'm so sorry to hear this. At least he has 72 hours. Do you think your mom will have him stay for longer than that, to get meds etc under control? Maybe more observation time with therapists?

I honestly don't think so. It's always just the week. He gets all mushy and lovey on his medication and my mom starts to miss him... I'm not involved in his care and anything I suggest my mom acts like it's really harsh and if he's ready to leave he should be able to.
Is there a way to get him to have legally regulated in terms of medicines?
I'm not sure what this means, mel?
He usually stays for 72 hours.
Sometimes the legal system can require people to take their meds. This is usually monitored via blood tests. I think it usually only happens when people commit crimes though. It was a random option that popped into my head.

As far as I know, it's never been mentioned as an option. He's never done anything illegal. Just harmful to himself. And sometimes my mother, but she would never press charges.
partiallysunny, hugs, it would be nice if you could make him but the odds are low that you can.
I'm not in the position to make those kinds of decisions. It's my mother who is, and she does what my dad wants, for the most part.
She's playing the victim right now, and it's irritating me.
That sounds so difficult PS. Not having control can be so frustrating. I wish there were something I could say or do besides offer hugs. This is where we all get to see the holes in and failings of our mental health system.
