OK you guys, prince william used to be SO HOTTTT back in the day (like, teenage years and right in early 20s) - what happened!? Everyone looks amazing (even Lupo) but it is clear that William's Diana-side genes are fading and Charles-side genes are taking over. WHYYYYYY!?
I still want to be Kate, though.
one kid has to look like charles, albeit w/ his mom's coloring (blond hair/blue eyes) .... harry DEFINITELY has the Spencer genes .... he's a dead ringer for Di's brother.
I love that they did not use a professional photographer. It makes royalty seem more real and down to earth. Kate is beautiful!
I love it too. I mean, the lighting isn't ideal, but they're fantastic for family snapshots and I like that they're very real. The overly airbrushed/processed baby in basket or with other props pictures are very and contrived to me and will probably look dated in a decade anyway.
Also, we have no idea whether they have more professional photos that haven't been released to the public. At the very least, I'm sure those aren't the only two photos of the kid that the family has.

I read they didn't want to mess up his schedule with a professional photographer right now. There will be plenty of opportunity I'm sure.
I'm just tired of seeing him in the same blanket, LOL

I thought of this when I was in Target 20 minutes ago and saw the Aden & Anais blankets on the shelf ... apparently the bird pattern immediately sold out once George was photographed in it. I looked it up and A&A is based in Brooklyn, so I'm sure that they want to promote British industry whenever possible.
LOL, the white blanket is pretty, I'm just surprised they haven't shown a single pic of him in, say, a onesie, or actually unwrapped. To me he's still just a head with a blanket

I hear ya. I was expecting something different myself before they released the photos yesterday.
I think William said in that recent CNN interview that he's only showing George off because he has to (and even so, he's made that viewpoint pretty clear through the years, and I can't blame him), so I wonder if this was literally and figuratively their way of keeping him under wraps as much as they can. Or it may have just been the best family pic of the bunch and he happens to be swaddled up.
I also wonder if they would've selected the name George if they were a regular couple instead of royalty. I'm sure they knew going into this that they had a shortlist that they could pick from, rather than considering a name like Tyler or Justin or something. And FWIW I like the name George, but who knows if that would've been their choice anyway or if it was just a "this is the best of what we have to work with" situation.

I read that Kate's favorite was Alexander (which is one of the MNs), but I can see that being nixed (I don't see that anywhere in the line unless you maybe head over to Russia?). I'm wondering if that's what they're going to call him, considering Edward VIII was called David by the family.

Anne, The Princess Royal, gave her kids decidely UNroyal names - Peter and Zara - but being the one girl w/ 3 brothers who could inherit the crown before her, i guess picking a 'royal' name wasn't on the radar and she had the leeway to get as creative as she wanted.

Hadn't she already decided her kids weren't getting the royal treatment anyway? Oh, here it is
The children of the Princess Royal do not hold any royal or noble title, nor are they automatically entitled to royal status by right of birth, as they are the grandchildren of a monarch in the female line, while their father has no title in his own right
So I'm sure she was allowed to name them whatever they wanted. Which is also why Peter's kids are Isla and Savannah. Not exactly Royal Names

Absolutely. I don't blame them in the least for not putting a ton of effort into these photos. It sucks that they have to release them at all ... I'm sure they'd much rather have their private time. I felt SO bad when Kate had to come out of the hospital a day after giving birth, hair and makeup done and wearing heels, and face that gigantic wall of cameras.
I don't remember any Prince Alexanders in the family (except for Alexander John, the one-day old son of Edward VII and Alexandra), so I guess if they wanted to use that as the first name there was no precedence to fall back on. Like you said, the advantage to 2+ middle names is that they can call him something different around the house.

Ditto drloretta ... Peter and Zara aren't His/Her Royal Highness and they're pretty far down in the line of succession for that generation, so it probably didn't matter. They're members of the Royal Family and they're in line for the throne, but they themselves aren't royals and they don't have any official functions on behalf of the family (which is why they can hold regular jobs - he's in banking, and she was an equestrian but she's stopped for a while since she's pregnant).
Isn't "Zara" a Greek name? That pays tribute to Prince Philip's roots, I suppose.
