You didn't imply all Asian people work at nail salons but you did sort of imply all nail salons have Asian people working there and I raised my eyebrow at that.

Not my intent. I think I have tried to make it clear, it was never my intent to be offensive or racist in any way.
I used to go to a really great manicurist, who was half AA, and half Vietnamese. She had a hard time keeping clients because she didn't "look" Asian enough.
I was all like WTF, your awesome, who gives a fuck? But she said people didn't trust a non Vietnamese person to do there nails. She ended up going to massage school, and switched careers.
People. Suck.
That said I find I prefer male nail techs. I think they are more objective somehow. Guess I suck too.
Google, y'all. Like, if I wanted to know why most basketball players are black or something I would not ask that question to a bunch of internet strangers in a forum. Google that shit, man.

Excuse me, why do you have my husband as your avatar?
Well, we didn't want to break the news to you this way but...

All I can add is that my nail technician was brought over to the US from Vietnam with a group of women who were all hired to learn how to do nails and helped place them once they were done with their education. She has some interesting stories of being bunked with all the women in a rooming house.
I love her, have been going to her for years and she makes the BEST spring rolls.ever.

ETA: especially when you're basically a lurker with no posting background for others to fall back on and know you aren't ig'nint.
Gas station egg.
We should all do the opposite of what you advise for at least the next 6 weeks.
And by that logic - why do we ask questions or discuss anything here? Just google!
That's how I feel, most questions on here could be answered with a Google search, or we could share our family stories/pics/problems just with people we know irl. People crying 'bullshit' that I knew what kind of shit storm I was stepping into with a poorly worded question, you are wrong.
This is really, really dumb. What's wrong with asking a question? Perhaps it wasn't worded with the utmost precision, but I believe most of the people understood. There have been books written on this very subject, which I believe speaks to the credibility (or the validity?) of the question.
I know I shouldn't be surprised by the pile-on/over reaction, but I am. Can you people take it down a notch?
Once again. Lurker plus poorly worded topic plus racially inclined topic equals asking for trouble. Know your audience, dude.
Should my first several posts only be about asking for advice re: my in-laws, my child's latest ailment or what brand makes the best BB cream?
Oops, is it racist to say my beloved Vietnamese nail tech makes good spring rolls? I know that not all people of Asian descent make spring rolls!
No.
You know her. You've eaten her spring rolls. There is no generalization of an entire group here. This is based on your actual experience with one person. Your statement applies only to her.
My issue is with gross generalizations and unthoughtful questions.
Asking this question as posed is no different from asking why there are so many black basketball players, why there are so many Mexican fruit sellers, why there are so many Filipino nurses, or why there are so many Jewish lawyers. Is there an explanation for any of this? Perhaps. Is it something you ask a group of people whom you don't know? No.
Is there harm in wondering such things? I don't know. I personally get highly irritated when people ask such things of me, as if I need to represent and/or educate on behalf of my whole race. To me, the harm lies in alienation of the "other" and classification based solely on an immutable characteristic.
I apologize for perhaps overreacting, but I do not apologize for being continuously annoyed.
In any event, wannabe is a bad Asian for wearing shoes in the house. This was already established long ago, and I befriended her anyway.
I must be Asian because I do not wear shoes in the house. One of my great grandma's came over from Germany, and we were looking at a photo album, and I asked my mom "why do German people look so angry all of the time" haha I was a kid
apalettepassion.wordpress.com/ WHO IS BONQUIQUI!?!?!?!??!
"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
The Indians at Subway part was the bit I found a little off.
I can see how it is a legitimate question, but the OP could have phrased it better. Something like, "I've noticed that many nail salons are owned by Vietnamese families and I was wondering if there was any background or history behind that."
