I can't seem to find anything that I like for our kitchen reno. Well, I can, but I refuse to pay $165 a sq ft.
I have no idea what I want. I keep going between 'clean and modern', 'something that makes a statement', 'something artsy' and 'something fun'. Or maybe just something that looks like it belongs in a 70s rustic modern house. lol
If we weren't having back painted glass for the upper cabinets, I would have wanted it for the backsplash, but now that seems like way too much gloss...even if it was a different color.
Are you looking for something with color? or would white / black / SS be ok?
Any of the above. See why it is so hard? The texture thing is throwing me too, since we have glossy, stainless appliances and then the textured cabinet. And one of the counters is sparkly.
We have a lot of color in dishes, cookware and accessories...mostly red, but we have le creuset stuff in cherry, flame, cobalt (or something similar) and one of the yellows. We have an aqua color in glasses and dishes, but it is more of the greenish aqua rather than a turquoise shade.

Ok I gave you a few links to work with, I'm leaving work but I have some more links at home that might fit the bill. I'm trying to figure out something for my kitchen that fits my modern taste and my traditional kitchen :/

Ok, this is from way out in right field, but what about wood tiles? Not the big porcelain tiles people put on the floor, but actual tiles made of wood?
Something along these lines:
ETA: I realize that this photo is of laminate, but I think it's the best example of what I'm talking about.
If you do decide to go colorful, I'd go all out. Something like the Henry Lush line at ModWalls. I actually have 10sf of Gloria I'm trying to find a home for in my house.

Not so far out there. That is one of those things that I keep thinking of, then discount. rinse. repeat.
I am just not sure if the flooring and faux wenge is enough wood-like impression for such a small space. The wenge is not as dark as the drawing. IRL it has slight variations in color as well as texture...and the flooring blends well with the cork and the concrete color of the quartz and colors in the wenge. I am just not sure if the real wood would be too much. I think I am over-thinking all of this.
I want something new to me, which wood would be (as far as backsplashes go), but in our old house we did an all glass backsplash tile in the master bath, and we installed a really pretty stone/glass combination in the kitchen, so I am kind of over those.

I like your style, but I am not sure that we are interested in spending $77 a sq ft. for a backsplash. Maybe for something behind the cooktop, but not the whole thing. I do love the Heath dimensional tile for sure.
I have considered the inhabit tiles, but not for the kitchen...they seem like they would be a pita to keep clean.
The Lush line is really nice, but nms . DH would like it a lot, but I am not showing it to him...I am tired of him having opinions.lol
What color sparkles in the countertop? The sparkly counter is on the island, and it is white with gray/silvery sparkles. The counter by the backsplash looks like concrete.
3form (or similar) resin panels? I love this idea! I had thought of it a long time ago, but had completely forgotten about it.ETA: why do I only like things that are expensive?
I've only priced it for countertops, not panels so wasn't sure how much it costs. Sorry if its lots of $$$! I'd love to know how to get it cheaper too bunny!
I saw those at HD or Lowes last weekend. They looked pretty nice, and there are some really interesting patterns, but the way they feel would bother me.
I kind of love this crocodile caesarstone, but I don't think DH would like it. He isn't a fan of reptiles. ;p
Do they have other patterns? I sort of love that idea.
I think they have one other pattern, but this is the one that I like. I sort of have a thing for croc embossed stuff and animal prints. I think the other pattern is flowery or swirly.
I let DH have the sparkly quartz that he liked on the island, so I should get the crocodile on the wall, right? ;p
You will probably hate this, but I'm throwing it out there anyway.
What about agate (or agate look)? Caesarstone makes one in blue: www.concetto.net/Content.aspx?Page=product&id=41. It can go in by itself or be backlit. I've seen it in other colors but can't remember where!

I don't hate it...I just think it is really pricey. I remember searching for prices when I first saw it in a magazine a while back. I can't remember what I found, but since I have been ignoring it, I think it was big bucks.
Too funny, it just came on the tv show that I have on...Kitchen Cousins. They said that the concetto is the high end line, and supremo (which they used) is more affordable. It is not as interesting though.
They are using Dwell on the backsplash....also a favorite of mine, and it seems appropriate to the house. The in stock are much more affordable than the made to order...maybe I should give them another look.
Funny how $26 a sq ft seems much more affordable after looking at things that that were $56-$165 a sq ft. lol
