FWIW, I think you did the right thing. It is more than likely a need for attention or a way to try to control your BIL/get him back, but I always think it's better safe than sorry in these situations.

I don't ever blame anyone for calling, because it usually means they can slep with no regrets at night. But I do think it just encourages this kind of "any attention is good attention" behavior until it's completely out of control.
I don't blame you for calling. Tell your brother that from this point forward you don't want to hear another word about her.
This is a contradiction. If you really think there's merit in calling because there's a chance she may have committed suicide, expelling her from your life sure as hell doesn't do anything to protect her the next time she threatens to hurt herself. Either you think she's a danger to herself, needs help and it's your responsibility to get her help/protect her from herself or you don't. This idea that as long as you don't hear about it everything is peachy-keen is, well, completely self absorbed.

I'm okay with it being self absorbed. Amoosed doesn't owe this woman anything. I'm saying that, for amoosed's own sake and sanity, I completely understand why she called. And it further demonstrates why she needs to have no contact, even third hand, with this woman.

I disagree. It's possible she could be committed at this point and maybe get some help. I would never take a suicidal threat as anything but serious, even if I think it's an attention ploy.
Didn't they just cost her last week? I'm serious here. Didn't they use driver her to the hospital for observation and mental health services?
Contract safety basically means she confirmed she isn't suicidal with a plan or intent.
Thank you for clarifying.
Please understand, I would probably have seriously considered calling, too. In the past, I have called on several occasions. I just feel like this woman has shown in opinion every way possible that she's out to make your lives miserable. Still, I can see why you wouldn't want to live with the intake of not calling if she was serious.
They have the person threatening sign a contract that they won't commit suicide. Because they are obviously in the frame of mind to do so. I HATE when they allow patients to do this.

This seems bizarre to me. Like a person signs it, then changes their mind, then thinks "oh I can't kill myself, I could get sued for breach of contract." WTF is the point?
