Thank goodness you guys are ok. When I was in college and visiting home frequently (an hour away) I tended to doze off a lot. My parents were concerned it was carbon monoxide and made me carry a CO detector in my car. It turns out it was just a boring drive. This and mrsjuleshs's story are enough to make me want to start carrying it again though...

Oh my god. I am so glad you are both okay. Are either the ped or your doctor going to do follow up testing to make sure there are no residual effects? I had a relative who had CO poisoning and nearly died and it is nothing to mess with.

I'm so glad you are both ok. Carbon monoxide is so scary and it can happen really quickly inside of a car. Something similar happened to my roommate during university in a super old beater. Luckily she had the window cracked to smoke but she came back home all confused and was vomiting everywhere. We took her to the hospital and then they figured out what happened. Freaking scary.
I would have that vehicle towed to a Hyundai dealership and have the techs look it over before the rental company can make something up. Get them to write a full report and have the rental company pick it up from them. Then I would sue the crap out of them. I'm guessing that whoever worked on it confused the tubes in the AC/heat unit. (Don't really know this make of car)
I agree with the PP about having the car looked at before the rental company takes it back. I hate to think like this, but you never know - they might try to deny any fault, lie and say they checked and everything is fine so you must have been sick from something else. They might be super nice to you right now, so you'll go along with what they want, give them the car back, and let them cover their asses.
This is really smart and I wouldn't have thought about it.
Additionally, if there is something legitimately wrong with how the car was modeled/built, Hyundai needs to know.
