I see a lot of race and run times posted here and it seems I'm so much slower than everyone else. I was curious the range of paces we have on this board.

You're faster than everyone on the couch I try to not get hung up on what others are doing, but focus on what I can do to improve my times. That is all I can really do.

There's a huge range is paces represented on this board. We have some pretty speedy ladies as you can see from the Boston post. But it doesn't mean anything less for those of is that aren't that fast.
It varies so much based on how tired I am, and HOW HOT AND HUMID IT IS. Like, my "go for an easy run" pace in October is like I'm a different runner than in July. Anywhere in the 9's is normal for me depending on circumstances. 8's if I push it, 10's if I'm beat and/or it's hot.
Recovery run. If you were to go out and run an easy 3-5 miles. No speed work.
These are still different for me. Easy run is just getting some miles in. Recovery run is more like a shuffle to shake the crap out of my legs with no standards for pace.
Hmmm, not recovery run then. Just out to get some miles in type run. I guess I'm not sure of the correct terminology.

I was just asked what advice I would give an aspiring athlete (literally, like 10 minutes ago), and my answer was "To look up to others - not compare themselves to others."
I think it's interesting to see what paces everyone runs at. I usually find it challenging, in a good way, to see how much faster than me any of you ladies run. It's different from seeing the times that an elite runner puts up because these paces are a lot more realistic as goals for me, which is definitely an incentive to push myself a little harder.
I can see how it might be discouraging for some though.

This is all I meant by the poll. I've been running for a couple of years now so I'm pretty comfortable with where I stand. I just don't usually see race results I can relate to, so I was just curious about the board's pace stats.

I voted based on my "just go out for a couple mile run" time but the major caveat is that it is my just go out and run for a couple miles in the fall time. In the dead of summer, I'm much much slower.
I feel like some people are being difficult just to be difficult. Lol Generally speaking easy-ish pace people! She even gave it in ranges of 30 sec. This could account for changes in weather, guesstimate an average. Check which pace you easily hit the most. It does not account for hangovers....don't answer hangover pace.
It really does depend on the weather. Summer: 9:30-10:00; Winter: 9-9:30.
But seriously, don't compare yourself to others...you are waaaay faster than people who are sleeping in rather than getting up early or those who are watching tv versus running, etc. As long as you're out there moving

I don't know how to say this without being creepy, so I'm just going to place this here.
I am realizing I am faster during training then I am during a race. In training I am 11:30ish/mile but my races have me in the 12s. My H suggested that I was starting too far back in the group and that causes me to start out too slow. Next race I'm going to try moving up a little to see if it helps.

I have about a year's experience running and I typically run 9 minute miles for anything less than 10 miles. I do have some sub 9s but they are not a regular thing. For longer runs, it's anywhere between 9.5 and 10 minute miles.
I agree with the others that this board has a wide variety of paces and it's important to feel proud of whatever pace you have.

this exactly.
i ran my 15k yesterday averaging 9:24. that's laughable in the summer. my fastest for a 10k was an 8:54 and i wanted to die after-that was in april in WI, so still in the 30s.
YES! Board slowpoke, right here! If any of you need to feel better about your running time, just come talk to me. I'll help you out.
Right there with you! I'd like to think that if I was a contest for who could run longest, I'd have a shot. I may not get as far, but I could definitely go for hours :-)
