I think DS was communicating with one or two word demands at that point. He was much more expressive with his hands and often relied on the few signs he knew rather than trying to verbalize. The words were clear, but they were few.
DD1...she could say animal sounds, do those count? Lol. Yeah barely any words & certainly not clear. She tested "normal" range at 3yrs in speech & delayed at 5 when I had her re-evaluated. She had minor speech issues ("L" & "R" sound) & is dyslexic so her phonemic awareness is an issue.
DD2...spoke freakishly clear & early
DD3....not super clearly but could actually say words
**I take no credit or blame, they are who they are
I remembered reading not to worry unless strangers don't understand her at age 3. So I waited and she developed like crazy between the ages of 2 and 3.
Adam was pretty understandable. Erin, she was severely delayed. Like testing all over the map, some areas at 12 months, some at 28 months when we had her evaluated at 22 months of age. The pathologists settled on 50% delayed.
So she had individual speech therapy weekly for months. She just needed prodding to talk as she was very comfortable having adam speak for her. Or just grunting, shrieking and pointing
Now she won't shut up. She's still not crystal clear, and can't say her L's, can barely say her R's and finally nailed her F's in the last few months. No more paries! its fairies! wooohooo. I know I should stop her and slow her down like I used to when she was in speech but its sooooooo cute when she says woookit me mama.
I mean, come in! She's not going to college replacing an l with a w, so I'm not really worried. As long as your lo shows solid comprehension of language, the rest generally falls into place with intervention.
