IF it fades away, I think that's when we'll see a deal fast. This is all about grandstanding and garnering press and not being the first to back down. When no one's looking, the stunt is over, and everyone will be able to move on.
I have too many Fox News fans on my fb feed to suggest that this won't fade into the background over time. Lots of similar comments to what EllieArroway is seeing and its frustrating. I have to pretty much stay off or the RAGE starts all over again.
Unfortunately, these people are SO misguided, that if the shutdown goes on long enough that they start feeling the effects - the outcry will STILL be because the Dems should back down and let the Repubs/Tea Party do what they want.
Our National Guard is not being paid so that is a big deal in our state. So not all military is fine.
And I would love to see the people who say "Oh this is no big deal" have to eat their fucking words in a couple weeks when they realize how much they benefit from the fed govt. Fucking idiots
I think it will go on for 2 weeks until the possibility of default becomes more realistic and that puts a fire under their butts to get something done.

I hope you are wrong
I'm already jumping out of my skin. Lol.
I just read an article on the WSJ which said that the two sides are not even really talking to each other right now. Seems like most analysts are predicting a pretty protracted battle. It'll be interesting to see if they decide to put the debt ceiling off limits. OTOH I can kind of see them doing that (playing around with that could be really disastrous) but on the other, do we really see the House Republicans giving up their one trump card so early on? Probably not.
I have had two separate FB friends (who don't know each other) say they are happy about the shutdown. One said "The mail will still run, the military will still get paid, and social security checks are still going out. The rest was wasteful spending anyway. People can learn to live without their Obama phones." Because apparently that's all the federal government does in her mind. The other said its shameful that we have 800,000 "non-essential" federal employees and that none of them should be brought back.
I've also seen countless posters bragging about how they don't follow politics, or saying that there's no reason to care what Washington is doing, Jesus will save you. So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised at all if this "story" fades away locally. I'm surrounded by idiots.
Well, the good news for these people is they can stay blissfully unaware of how badly the "slimdown" is trashing the economy. Since the entire Bureau of Labor Statistics is "non-essential". No jobs reports, no employment reports, etc.

This won't go away. Not only does it affect the jobs of the 800,000 "non-essential" federal employees but it trickles down to affect others too. For example, I have a friend in Northern Minnesota whose hubby's company had a ton of bids out to work on Federal roads. Now those are all a no-go, and so he is out of work. I am sure throughout the country, there are thousands and thousands of people affected in a similar "domino effect" way.
