Lavender makes me think of my grandmother, she used to keep lavender in her bathroom and closet and always smelled like it.
Wood stoves burning makes me think of my grandparents old house, my grandfather had a wood stove in the living room and I would sit and crack walnuts next to it in the winter. I wish he had never moved

There is a town here that smells like the fair back home. It was always one of my favorite places, so every time I smell it, I miss home. The smell of cedar brings me right back to the hamster I had as a kid. There are others too, but those are the ones I can think of at the moment.
Oh yes. A certain body spray that I've had for years reminds me of a great vacation with my mom, and I can't bring myself to use the rest of it or throw it out because sometimes I just go and sniff it. LOL
Yes, all the time. Most are good memories. However, I can't walk into a florist without breaking down in tears because it immediately takes me back to my DD's funeral.
I cannot smell Obsession for Men without thinking of my first love.
Chanel No 5, cigarettes, and peppermint remind me of my maternal grandmother.
Motor oil/mechanical smells, etc. remind me of my mom - I know, that sounds kind of bizarre, but when I was a kid, she worked her butt off at a car parts factory to take care of the six of us, and it's a comforting smell. Of course, now that she's retired, any time I smell Caress soap (which I used growing up and still do, from time to time), I think of her. And she just always smells SO GOOD LOL.
My mom told me once that we each have our own smell, not a perfume thing or shampoo etc, but just our own unique scent. She has my late brother's leather jacket in kept tucked away in a zippered bag and sometimes, she will still unzip just to have the smell of him again. She said it's one of the things she misses most.
All of the time. Two weekends ago I was house/dogsitting for my parents, and when I walked in (it'd been closed up for a week by then) it smelled EXACTLY the way my Grandmom's house used to smell. It was nice.
I don't do this with smells, but I do with sounds/music.
For example, the song "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay takes me back to when I moved into my first apartment. I can see myself driving down the road after my first grocery shopping trip!
Yes...Our original great dane Dixie lived to be 11 and when we got our two "new" danes (who are now 3) I had taken them to get a bath at a different groomer/vet (I could never bring myself to go back to the vet Dixie went to her whole life and where we had to put her to sleep) and when they came home they had used the same shampoo or whatever and I lost it....completely. Its never happened since then but I was overwhelmed by that memory.
Also H's mother killed herself and lay dead in the home for 3 months (loooong backstory, she was mentally ill and they hadnt seen each other in 10 years). We have a few pieces of her furniture in our home and every once in awhile we catch a whiff -- and its been over 10 years. ugh

Many many of them but two that stick out most are
Tmi: when I get a whiff of boob sweat (it's not unpleasant lol) it reminds me of nursing my children and I get all nostalgic
When I am in the hospital or one of the satellite sites for physical therapy or any other thing, they all use the same hand soap and it reminds me of birthing my kids so that gets me all sad for them not being newborns anymore
I live two min from hospital I have stopped there to use gift shop bathroom just to use the soap
Oh yes. Paint thinner will always remind me of my dad/our basement where he kept his painting supplies. It's so immediate. :sniff: Boom, I'm standing in the laundry room.
Anytime I smell moth balls I feel like I am back on Cape Cod in my grandparents cottage some 30 years ago.
Also very soothing to me is the sound of a football game on tv. When I want to nap on the couch and want background noise I always find a game. It reminds me of being a kid and having a lazy day while my work a holic always travelling dad was at home and we were snuggling on the couch.
Its funny bc I had friends and their homes always had a scent to them. Not good bad or otherwise but a scent. I never thought that mine did until my niece said "I love the way your house smells when I come over.. your home has a scent" I asked her to describe it and she can't. she said its a pleasant scent though
