I was really strict with David's diet until I heard a story on the bump that totally changed my ways. I decided then that I wasn't going to be that mom and never looked back. I think a lot of new moms fall into the trap of "I'm going to do everything PERFECT." I'm so glad I eventually got some sense.
Okay, so what's the story that changed your ways!?
IDK if people remember her but her name was Lexi and she eventually had to GBCN because she found out her IL's were stalking her on the nest or something. Annnnyway, her mom used to babysit a little boy every day after school and his mom was super strict about food. No sugar, no processed food, I forget the specifics but she was a real weirdo about food. Very extreme. She used to send him with snacks every day and that's all he could eat. Well, one day when he was over and her mom was watching him, they couldn't find him anywhere and they searched the house and ended up finding him someplace, a closet or something, with a box of twinkies or ding dongs and he just broke down and cried and begged them not to tell his mom. Made me sad.
lol! I know you're joking but you do have a point. I'm just saying that story really resonated with me and changed the way I was such a spaz with David.
I grew up dumping sugar in my milk because I want allowed any treats. I would also go to my friends houses and stuff myself with their junk food until I was literally sick. I will never do that to my kids, it totally backfired on me.
I would do this all the time at a friend's.Â
... and I still eat until I'm sick but it's usually at home. I joke about it, but it is pretty sad that I have no control. *I have control in not buying junk to keep in my house but man, once I start making cookie dough or brownie batter, my stomachache is just minutes away.
This describes me exactly. It is like I have to eat everything right now or I'll never get to eat it again even though logically I know that isn't true.
Well I was restricted sugar as a kid and I did not go crazy when I was out of my mom's sight. Why does everyone assume if you eat healthy at home, you're hiding in a closet at the sitter's eating ring dings?
haha, j/k, but I thought someone should go ahead and get us there.

What's kind of funny is my mom didn't buy much pop and refused to buy sugared cereal...but we always had those Hostess fruit pies. There was a shitload of sugar in them! I think they were just cheaper, LOL.
I had a good amount of sugar as a kid. For lunch in elementary school my mom would send me with a salami sandwich, a Hostess Ho Ho (yummy!!) and a Coke wrapped in tin foil to keep it cold (this was the 70's early 80's). For middle school I would get the chocolate malt everyday and in high school I'd eat Taco Bell, a Kit Kat and Coke almost everyday for lunch. Oddly I have never struggled with my weight and eat healthy now. I was a very active kid though always walking and biking everywhere.
ugh - i know the feeling. my weirdo kid only wants salad when we go out ... seriously. she's WEIRD!
I didn't use the microwave on my kids food - but only because I'm ridiculously lazy and wanted to get her used to eating food at any temp. Which is good because while she is super random in WHAT she eats, she doesn't care if it's warm, cold or room temp.

I get an instant gut ache just thinking about those things.
I am not sure if there is anything in the world more sugary than those damn things.
We had no sugar in the house when I was little because my sister is a type I diabetic.
I like sugar, but I'm not really a dessert person at all. I never went ballistic on a box of Twinkies or anything.
Thankfully these days type 1 diabetics can eat what they want, in moderation, with an insulin pump. She can have an occasional cupcake or donut as long as we carb her for it. Does your sister pump now?
I used to sprinkle sugar on my gum when it lost its flavor. lol
This shows outstanding ingenuity. You were a child genius, clearly. And I am sad that I didn't think of it, and just spooned sugar in my mouth instead.
I'll never understand the fear that ONE MEAL could undo a life-time of perfect parenting.
I don't thin K that at all. But I think it's dumb for a daycare to give fast food to a kid who just turned one.
i teach my kids moderation. I wouldn't throw a fit. But I wouldn't be happy. It's just stupid at that age, IMO. I don't care if others do it with their own kids, but I don't think daycare should. It would bug me.
