And if it is tacky, can I just blame it on the fact that I am a new parent, and trying to minimize the amount of work I want to do this holiday season?
Not tacky at all. Throw him in a Santa hat, lay him in a wrapped gift box and call it a day. Merry Christmas from the Jalapeno Family, Husband, Mel and Baby born xx/xx/2013, x lbs, x oz at xx:xx am.
I think its fine. I did two cards in the same envelope because of SDs. I didn't want them shoved off the Christmas card once DS comes along but I think its cute. I would love to get a Christmas baby announcement!

DD was a January baby, and these babies will (hopefully) be born around the holidays as well. I only did birth announcements the season DD was born, and I'll do the same with these babies.
I don't keep score on who I hear from/don't (in a judgy way) for the holidays, especially if they have a new baby.
And also? You're minimizing the amount of cards I have to feel guilty about recycling at the end of the season. You're doing ME a favor!
what about writing a thank you note on a birth announcement instead of sending a separate one?
full disclosure: these would be going to my aunts who have been crappy to my mom who has always been great to me and recently kicked ass and took care of me and my newborn for 2 weeks, so if it is tacky, i probably don't care.
