I love using a period after something that kind of calls for an exclamation point. It makes me think of the Office episode where Dwight puts up the sign for Kelly that says, "IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY." And I chuckle.
"Why would you ruin perfectly good peanuts by adding candy corn? That's like saying hey, I have these awesome nachos, guess I better add some dryer lint." - Nonny
I also use ellipses more than I should. And if I try to stop they often turn into dashes. I think I use it as a pause, and (normally) don't mean anything in sarcastic way. Sometimes they signfy me sighing. I also have problems writing short sentenances if I don't think about it.
Basically, my grammar and writing style is horrible.
One of my bosses does this. It's terrible. TERRIBLE. Sometimes he does it on every sentence. I had to have an intervention a few months ago, but they are creeping back. It is also contagious, because I noticed a few of the guys that work for him doing the same.
Disclaimer: one set, here or there, fine, but 99% of the time you can just put a period.
