No, themoneytree , you're right. No finger sweep initially. Once I did the chest compressions (baby Heimlich) it brought the object up enough to safely do a finger sweep.
I'm so thankful I was reviewing infant first aid a few months ago.

I don't remember the chest compressions for choking. I just remember laying the baby along the arm and striking with the base of the hand. God I really do need a refresher. I don't even know at what age you stop doing it that way.
Omg how scary!!! You are amazing... I can't imagine how scary that must have been.
My anecdote... I was talking to XH a while ago about DD and her love of hot dogs (gag), and he nonchalantly throws in, 'I had to give Nora the heimlich a few weeks ago at the kitchen table.' Holy shit kids are scary.

Yes, you lay them on your firearm tilting down and do hard hits to the back while supporting their neck with your other hand. Then flip over to do the chest thrusts. This is for babies less than a year old, I think. I hope you never have to use it.
And that would be forearm, definitely don't put your baby on your firearm.
Lol. Our kid is 16 months now - I've been watching YouTube videos to remind me how to do it the other way. I really hope I never have to too. So terrifying. : (
I thinking choking is one area that is passed up in baby courses, etc too much. It's ben the most terrifying fear of mine thru all of my children. You have to watch them like a hawk and even when they start learning to eat that can be so scary too. We had an issue with blueberries once and I will never forget that moment. Thank goodness you were there and saw everything happen so you could react quickly. I would make a rule that all food must stay in the kitchen. No snacking around the house and then there is better control on stuff getting dropped. This is at least what we have had to do after we had our second kid. Call me paranoid.
