In the Starbucks, under a cover, in a back corner. No one has noticed except a preteen boy who turned red, some employees who couldn't care less, and another mom with 3 little kids hanging off of her cart who made eye contact with me and ... raised the roof. I love a good 1995 throwback.
I never got to nurse David outside of the hospital's NICU and one of my favorite things to do with C is nurse in public. The worst was having to do it in Panera, sitting directly across from a guy who was eating with his girlfriend. LOL I honestly don't know if he ever noticed, but the elderly women next to me gave me lots of smiles. The best was on the beach, I didn't have a cover yet so I stuck a big blanket into both straps of my suit and into the bottoms so it didn't fly up. It was uncomfortable, but the salt air, breeze and scenery were outstanding.
Love that someone raised the roof for ya! You are a rock star!!
Not that I'm aware of. No one has ever even made eye contact with me before. Lol.
Right?! Talk about awkward.
I'd avoid eye contact but come in for an awkward fist bump. That's cool, right?
Nooooooo. Do not approach me while my boob is out! I'd take a thumbs up, a raise the roof, or even a "You go girl!" before I wanted to fist bump a stranger while nursing.
Do you live in an area where BFing is not very common?
I have never seen anyone BF in real life. I only hear about it on GBCN!
I wonder if you just didn't notice. Moms can nurse while the baby is in a carrier, too, which is super discreet. Sometimes "sleeping" babies are actually eating.

I look at babies all the time now that I have one though, and still nothing. And I live in a blue state even! I have a CW who pumped for 6 months, so that is the longest I know of IRL.

Dude, I was totally kidding. Seriously, if I notice someone nursing I just go about my business. I had no idea that I was supposed to get up and sing "I'm Every Woman."

This is crazy to me!
I have also never seen anyone in the Walmart swimsuit. So I assume both are just internet legends. LOL.
Do not approach me, gesture to me, comment, whatever when I'm nursing in public. That just makes it awkward and draws attention to it and makes it not normal. If you really thought it was a normal thing, you'd just move on.

If this is a thing then I will be thumbs upping NIPers. i often joke about why it would be bad if I had a third kid because I am so much more relaxed with my second. I would be all Maggie Gylenhal nursing all the time.

I was nursing DS in the mall food court the other day. An elderly woman sat at the table near me and asked how old she was and could she hold her. I said, 4 mos, or whatever, and then said he was eating. She said, so loudly the whole place could hear her, 'ARE YOU NURSING? AT THE BREAST? RIGHT HERE AND NOW?' When I had quietly answered yes to each question, she just said, 'well hand her over when you're done.' Weird.

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"

What the hell? I'm guessing you did not know this woman. This is such a bizarre request to me - hey stranger, let me hold your brand new baby when you don't know me from Adam. I don't get people.
I wish I was this brave. I never use a cover but I usually use a nursing room or my car.
Liberate thyself! Once you do it a few times you realize it's no big deal. I have nursed everywhere cover less (yesterday in a packed aquarium sitting rightnext to people on both sides of me) and I have never had someone so much as raise an eyebrow.
I think sometimes moms are so self conscious about it we feel like other people are way more aware than they really are. I just don't think other people give a shit LOL.
I totally sat my big old butt right down next to a nursing mom at our aquarium yesterday & started blabbing about how crowded it was... and then started unloading & rearranging my diaper bag... & then started taking my toddlers coat off, all before I realized she was BFing. DH was like Dude... Maybe she wanted some privacy...
Really most of the time people are clueless. Like me.

No, I didn't know her. I thought it was strange, too, but I was mostly amused at the volume of her voice and the follow-up question, 'at the breast?' Where else would I be nursing from?
