I'm a hardcore "inside cat" person. Too many risks with letting your pet be outside. The only time we let T outside was on to the porch (or my IL's yard) and we were keeping a VERY close eye on him
You are welcome. I would say just steal her. The current owners obviously don't care about this cat's well being. If they cared they would realize that she doesn't like being outside. They know she goes to you looking for warmth and love and yet they chose to do nothing about it.
I had an indoor/outdoor cat growing up. He loved being outside and prowling the neighborhood. But I was the type of kid who wouldn't be able to sleep at night if my pet wasn't warm and safe inside. Especially on bad weather nights. Shoot, even if the weather turned bad during the day I'd stand outside and call him until he came. I will never understand people who don't give their outside pets a second thought.

Part of me wants so badly to say steal the kitty, but I agree with muddled. I think you should probably try talking to the owner first. Maybe it's a good excuse for a play date for the kids.
This is so funny, because I remembered that cat this morning (for some reason) and was going to ask you if she's still been visiting you guys.
You can't steal her. Talk to the owner, and hopefully she'll agree for you to take the cat in. Or she'll say you can send the cat to me. That would be cool, too.

I would just let the kitty come in any time it wants. I would buy food and treats and a litter box. Eventually the kitty just wouldn't leave. Tada! You have a kitty!
Then you can talk to the owner and say "kitty just loves it here at my house! It is kind of like she just moved in!" And since owner knows kitty likes it there better and obviously doesn't care very much about kitty she'll probably just go with it.

sassycat No update. I haven't seen the neighbor. Thankfully, it's warming up again. I've let the kitten in the house to warm up a few times. This also helps in seeing if our current cat (H's cat) likes her as well.
I'm a little afraid we'll bring her in and then she'll be fighting us to go outside all the time. I do not want an indoor/outdoor kitty.
I do think H's cat needs a friend. She spends most of the night meowing, which started after my cat died. I think she's lonely. No one to play with at night any more
Your H's kitty needs a friend. That should be the answer right there. Think of no more meowing in the night.
Once kitty is indoors for a while they do get used to it. I know my kitty was a rescue and was an outdoor, but now just lovingly is content sitting or sleeping on, in, or around anything that is mine.
Good luck, and hopefully the neighbour will gladly give you her kitty and be your friend too.
