The only thing I remember my mom singing is "You are my Sunshine." I sing that to Lilly a lot, but I also sing tons of other things. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was always my favorite to sing to her when she was tiny.
-what lullabies did your parents sing to you? I remember You Are My Sunshine and Rock-a-bye Baby. -what lullabies do you/did you sing to your children? I sing Baby Mine, You Are My Sunshine and Rock-a-bye Baby to them the most. They always ask for those ones.
My mom made one up about how it was time to sleep, and all of our friends were asleep. She listed family and friends and how each one was asleep, and then it was time for me to go to sleep.
I sing You Are My Sunshine to my kitty all the time. That is his lullaby.
I don't remember my dad singing me any songs. I'll have to ask him. Our nap time / bed time songs are Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Stand By Me, Lean on me, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
Tingalayo (sp) was a big one. Also the one that goes "put another Nickle in, in the nickleodean, all I want is loving you and music music music." No idea what its called
Okay, real answer. My mom doesn't sing. My dad sang everything, often in foreign languages (opera) but nothing with any special regularity except "I see the moon and the moon sees me", which I sing to both kids every night.
I also made up a song for L when she was a week old that I always sing to her and modified to sing to O too.
Other than that I just sing all kinds of songs all the time.
You are my sunshine is a really fucked up song essentially demonstrating the cycle of abuse in three short verses.
And also the state song of Louisiana.
Ywia.
I was curious and googled the lyrics for the entire song. Uuh, holy shit.
I sang rock-a-bye baby, You Are My Sunshine, and Hush Little Baby mostly. As DS1 got older, he and I made up our own little bedtime song to the tune of Neil Diamond's "Hello Again" lol no idea why.
Eta: I think my mom sang You Are My Sunshine. She wasn't much into singing.

I don't recall being sung to. H sings the girls 'good night, sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs *ba da ta CHA* bite', with a lot of silliness during the scatting. I sing them a song from Veggie Tales. Think of me every day Hold tight to what I say And I'll be close to you Even from far away Know that where ever you are It is never too far If you think of me I'll be with you. I pause randomly and they fill in the words, they sing the last line with me. If they are sick, I curl up with them and and sing a strange mix of show tunes, Amy Winehouse, and Pink Floyd.

I was going to make "Rock-A-Bye, Baby," E's song, but I decided it was too morbid. lol
I have changed the lyrics, I don't think Kristen even knows the real ones. When the bough breaks, The cradle won't fall Cuz I'll catch you, baby Cradle and all.

My parents never sang me lullabies. They read me books until 1st or so grade and then my oldest sister (almost 8 yrs older) took over reading me books. I have so many awesome memories of my oldest sister reading Gordan Korman books (among others).
I sang hush little baby a lot to the twins when they were newborns. Now we sing ittsy bitsy spider and twinkle twinkle little star. DD sings it as wiggle wiggle though
Ummm does You Can't Always Get What You Want count?
Hah. We have always sung that to c a lot and prob will to j. Because kids often want stuff they can't get.
My dad would sing to us late at night after he got home from work. A lot of Peter Paul and Mary and pretty much all classic rock. "Lemon tree" was my fave as a kid. My sister loved "scarlet ribbons."
I sang a lot of that to c as a baby but lately she's not into singing at night. Well except with Dh when they read and sing frosty the snowman. Which started in June and has been sung many times a week. You can imagine how excited she is about snow now that it's arriving!
My Mom- Some songs about Jesus or various tunes by Raffi For Kirklette, I sing - I Don't Want to Live on the Moon. I'm basically a one trick pony. LOL Mr.Kirkette sings - Layla, Rainbow Connection, Under the Sea, Be our Guest, Kiss the Girl, Sing Sweet Nightingale, or other songs he makes up.
I have never heard that. It's cute. (It probably helps that I picked the JGL version on youtube)
-what lullabies did your parents sing to you? I don't think any lullabies.
-what lullabies do you/did you sing to your children? You Are My Sunshine Sweet Baby James Love Me Tender The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face Forever Young Go To Sleep You Little Baby Me and Bobby McGee

-what lullabies did your parents sing to you? Don't think they sung to me all that much. My Dad was a good storyteller, though -what lullabies do you/did you sing to your children? Each night I'll sing 4 or 5 songs from repertoire of a dozen and a half, including: "Feeling Groovy" "Home on the Range" "Let Me Call you Sweetheart" and "Over the Rainbow". I always end with the same two songs (so they know that I'm wrapping up): "Baby Mine" (sung to the tune "Oh my Darling Clementine") and "Frere Jacques".
I was very persistent about singing when they were little, so now I've created a monster. At age 8 and 6 they still expect it... And DS2 will cry if I don't sing to him.
My mom sang us 'Down in a Meadow,' and I sing it to my kids, too. I sing lots of different lullabies. I had to look up lyrics to lots of them, because I would only know one verse. I like to do the long version of Mary Had a Little Lamb. I wish I knew more non-lullaby songs, but H says I have a horrible voice anyway so we shouldn't subject them to it, lol.
