So those of you that your water broke... Did you sleep on plastic sheets or take a towel to work? I have been thinking about this recently. I was hoping to go into labor at work only because I am less than 30 minutes from my hospital. At home we are over an hour away and Dr said to come in when contractions are 10 min apart instead of the 5. He did say to come in if my water broke.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, it is my understanding that it's pretty rare for your water to break before you are in active labor/without warning. Having said that, my water did break while I was laying in bed. Luckily DH was able to get me out of bed and the sheets off before it got near the mattress (and my water broke in spectacular gushing fashion). You might want to consider keeping a towel and trash bag in the car just in case. I was still losing so much fluid when we headed to the hospital that I made DH cover my seat with both.

Trust me it's not great to have it break at work, lol.
Apparently only 1% of women have the movie-like experience I did, so it's unlikely it will happen to you.
I don't sleep on a towel or anything even after my experience with #1.
Just let it break on the subway, and let someone else clean it up.
When my water broke, I called my OB's practice's on call line and the OB that was on call that night asked me a few questions then told me to come in. I ended up having AJ 29 hours after my water broke, but was super close to having a c/s (the resident and chief resident that had been following me suggested trying to push as a last ditch effort to get me dilated that last centimeter since I'd been stuck at 9cm for a few hours). Looking back, I could have safely labored at home for a while since I didn't have contractions I could feel until I got put on pitocin at like 11am and 2cm but since my water had broken I felt better being at the hospital. Plus I was leaking fluid all over the place, I would have made a mess at home

My water didn't break with my first, so I didn't expect it to this time. I was sitting on the sofa w DD, felt a very sharp contraction. I instinctively jumped up bc I just felt like water was going to come out. It was very surreal when it happened.
I felt like I was gushing water for the 1.5 hrs from when it happened and we got to the hospital. I cannot imagine not going in, but I was GBS+, so I needed to get the antibiotics anyway.
When my water broke it only took 15 minutes after for the contractions to be so unbearable that I needed a wheelchair to get me from the car to L&D... it was like just out of the movies. But everyone is different!
