I wouldn't have thought of this myself, but I did notice with interest that Elsa did NOT end up with any prince at the end of the movie. I thought initially that one of the sisters would end up with Christoff and the other with the bad guy (Hans?). Whether it's because she's gay or because finally Disney is showing that a happy ending does not require teen marriage, I'm down.

I think this is reaching. So that whole unable to control freezing the world thing plays into the lesbianism thing how? It would be great if they came out with a gay prince/princess, but I don't think this is it.

I think this is such a stretch. I think Elsa's message is to embrace yourself for exactly who you are. This can certainly apply to being gay, but to say that this means Elsa is a lesbian is a total stretch. Also, the whole doesn't end up with a man = maybe she's gay is irritating. I think the whole point was that the sisters didn't need a man. The true love in the movie was their sisterly love.
And let me say this: OBVIOUSLY I think it would be awesome if Disney found the guts to have a lesbian princess. But I'd prefer they do it openly and champion her, and not just "drop hints." Which is why I think it's bullshit, and merely how some people have to explain away the fact that she don't got no mans.
I agree. In fact, I would be kind of pissed if Disney did announce she's a lesbian. I am totally pro gay princess, but you can't make a movie championing the acceptance of sexuality while disguising that sexuality behind hints and metaphors.
UGH! This irritates me to no end. I like the fact that there is a story about a female character that had NOTHING to do with her choosing a mate. The fact that people can't just let this be says a lot. There is more to life than finding a husband! And just because she didn't pair off with a prince, does not mean she's a lesbian. Are all single women lesbians? This just drives me nuts.
Honestly, I didn't really like Frozen that much. I wanted it to be more about the sisters and less about ANY men. It disappointed me in that sense. But all the over analysis about what it all means is driving me nuts.
Besides, maybe Elsa is just smarter than Anna. A queen can't go around willy-nilly choosing a husband in one day like her baby sister did. (I mean, let's face it, Anna didn't really spend THAT much more time with Kristoff than she did with Hans.)
I agree with this 100%. I actually hated the Anna character. And the men. The only one I liked was Elsa and she wasn't even in the movie that much!

They weren't married at the end though.
And this whole theory that was OP'd is laughable. Her sexuality, whatever it is, just wasn't a part of the story. Finis.

There are a number of websites that have made this connection, OP is not crazy. And to hope for a glimmer that disney is starting to show that gay is an okay possibility is cool, not weird or reaching. The websites are also making a connection that this is the first time they have hired an openly gay actor to do the voice as well.
I don't think this means that Frozen is definitely a gay movie, but it's nice that it's open to interpretation for whatever a kid feels different or repressed about, including being gay.
"Conceal, don't feel" and "let it go" have many possible meanings, though, which we've discussed in this thread. And if Elsa had ended up with a man like virtually every other (female) Disney protagonist, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
again, i haven't seen the movie, but i just feel like having mommymonster come in here and say, "as a gay woman, this movie really resonated with me to the point where i have the song on loop" and have a bunch of straight women not only tell her that she's wrong, but using words like angry, irritated, pissed, laughable, and "FOR FUCKS SAKE!" really sucks.
Well, she said the song "Let It Go" resonates with her. And I get that-- the song is about having a secret off your back and the freedom that comes with it.

Say what now? Ellen degeneres doesn't count?
Yeah, I was confused by this as well. I thought she meant Idina Menzel at first, but she's straight. So is Kristen Bell. I can't imagine this is Disney's first film with any cast member that's openly gay.
We're beyond excited for today's theatrical release of the new Disney musical adventure Frozen — and the fact that it features the voices of two Glee actors doesn't hurt. Plus, the film is a major first for a Disney animated film, and no, we're not referring to the fact that it's the first theatrical Disney movie to feature a wisecracking snowman. Although that is true.
Jonathan Groff — who played Jesse on Glee and is Lea Michele's (Rachel) real-life bestie — voices leading man Kristoff in the film, making him the first gay actor to ever voice a Disney prince. Way to go, J-Groff! Also rounding out the esteemed voice cast are Kristen Bell as Anna, Glee's Idina Menzel (Shelby) as Elsa the Snow Queen, and Book of Mormon's Josh Gad as the aforementioned talking snowman.
