1. How far along are you this week?6 weeks, 5 days 2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? Feeling nauseous this week but otherwise good 3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? 11 F, feels like -7 F. Brrrr. 4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? Sleep! I love sleep.
kermit, I was really struggling with calorie intake at that point, too. I decided it was more important to just get some fuel in my body than make sure it was healthy, so I ate a fair number of pop tarts.
I don't mind healthy food, it's what I'm used to and prefer, but it fills me up way faster than junk. It's not like I'm losing massive amounts of weight so I'm not really worried, but I know I need to keep an eye on it. It's not like Baked Lay's are really fuel - they're more like air. Yummy salty air.
Yeah I dropped 5 pounds in the first tri and just sort of stayed at that weight for weeks, and my doctor wasn't concerned. I think now, at 19 weeks, I'm just starting to get above my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm also just starting to get my appetite back and my food aversions are finally fading!
Uh, except I still can't eat nuts/nut butters, greek yogurt, and a few other pretty important protein sources for a vegetarian. I'm convinced my weight loss was mostly because the baby started eating my muscles. Which helps motivate me to work out. So I guess it all balances out!
1. How far along are you this week? I'll be 14w on Wednesday.
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? I have my NT scan on Wednesday. I had a regular appointment this morning and heard the heartbeat again, so I went ahead and told 4 of my bosses after I got to work. They were all super thrilled for me. You know you work for a family-friendly company when the VP offers to babysit for you, LOL. Now I just have to tell my client. That could go less well.
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? We had our windows open all weekend since it was in the high 60s. In the past couple of hours the temp has fallen fast and it will be 13 degrees tonight, which is unheard of for this area. Tomorrow the wind chill will be -10 to 0. H wants me to work from home and I'm all, "dude, people in Minnesota work with this on the daily."
4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? I'll miss being able to half-ass things. We'll actually have to pay attention to nutritionally balanced meals and schedules and what-not. Dinner can't just be a bowl of cereal and a handful of Starburst. I'm also notoriously lazy so I'll miss my beauty sleep. I'm looking forward to seeing the world through new eyes. Seeing my child experience simple pleasures for the first time will be really meaningful for me.
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? Baby has started kicking me a lot more the last few days. he's crazy! acid reflux is bad. Also, eating is bad right now. Too much food. Too many sweets. Can't help myself
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? warm today, maybe it's in the 40s? and kind of raining. The sidewalks are yucky because of all the snow melting into giant puddles. Tomorrow it's going down to very cold again, maybe about 10
4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? I'm a STM. I think what I miss the most is sleeping in until whatever time I want and never having to get up in the middle of the night to tend to a screaming child. Luckily (ha) the age gap is small enough that I never really got that used to sleeping again! lol I look forward to seeing them together, it's going to be so sweet. Also just having a squishy newborn. I love the toddler age, it's really fun but it does make me nostalgic for when she was a baby and I'm so glad I get the chance to experience all that again.
2. We asked my sister a few days ago to be present at the birth and do our birth photography. She's a professional photographer and has been wanting to do shoot some births, so this is the perfect opportunity. I think it will be really special to have her there, and the photos will be AMAZING!
3. It's been frosty/sunny here, but looks like it's going to switch to mid-40's and rain. Boo.
4. I'll miss only being responsible for myself and DH and uninterrupted sleep. But I'm looking forward to finding out who this baby is and seeing him/her grow up into a wonderful person!
1. How far along are you this week? 21 weeks, 4 days
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? I feel like I have really "popped" in the last week
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? -20, feels like -48 currently. We are in a windchill advisory until tomorrow at noon, but should warm up to 20s and 30s by the weekend
4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? FTM, I think I will miss sleeping and not needing to plan in advance for things. Things looking forward to: meeting them!
bricco I can't believe you have to take PTO when school is closed. I work for a school district and I'm pretty sure they don't make our teachers do that.
1. How far along are you this week? 15 weeks 2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? Getting nervous about telling work, even though I plan to wait until after the a/s. I have almost no symptoms right now - nausea and food aversions are gone. I hope my doc checks for h/b this week because I'm getting paranoid, lol. GIVE ME REASSURANCE!! 3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? Rainy. Which is no biggie. High tomorrow is only supposed to be 55, which is COLD for here, but certainly not compared to most of the rest of the country. And it's 75 now, so a couple days of cool weather are a-okay by me! 4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? Spontaneity, quiet, boozy afternoons in the pool or with friends. Looking forward to the opposite, lol, though - ready to move on to our next chapter, with noise, and overbooked schedules, and getting to see a new life take shape. I also wonder if I'll find a new connection with my mom, who has been gone since I was 19 - seeing her in me, so to speak.
bricco I can't believe you have to take PTO when school is closed. I work for a school district and I'm pretty sure they don't make our teachers do that.
They don't. But the thing is that I am due in April and I'm not coming back until next school year.
Before the snow day, we had 34 school days after Spring Break (which start March 28th). My leave begins at the break, and now there are 35 days after the break because the snow day will be made up in May, after the originally planned last day of school. I'll be at home then.
So now, instead of working that day (today), I'll be home on leave (in May).
Does that make sense?
Yes, that makes sense. I'd never heard of teachers having to take PTO when school was cancelled!
Thanks, smock. I have no particular reason to think that it will go badly, except that I am the first TT woman to be pregnant in quite some time. A lot of the senior faculty have kids, but they're in their teens and 20s.
I spoke to HR before getting pregnant while I was trying to figure out my benefits elections for 2014. Our faculty handbook is extremely vague on the subject of maternity leave; it comes down to the fact that each leave is negotiated on a case-by-case basis with the department. I'm not sure whether this will be good or bad for me.
I would love to take the whole semester off, and that seems to make the most sense. (Twelve weeks would put me in late October, and why would I take over the adjunct's classes with six weeks to go?) I guess I'm less concerned about getting time off (I can take 12 weeks unpaid if it comes to that) and more concerned about the effect on my career.
Our faculty handbook is also super vague, because the university policy is 6 weeks paid for faculty and staff, but that makes no sense if you're due in the middle of a semester, and most of our classes cannot be taught by other faculty members or adjuncts. So we have the same case-by-case system, which also worried me a bit.
Turns out that even though I'll be 12 weeks postpartum when the semester starts, my chair is getting me a course release for fall so I only have to teach one class that semester. Also, I sort of thought having a baby in late May/early June would be perfect for the semester system, until I realized that I'm essentially screwing myself out of research time whereas a Feb/Mar or Sept/Oct due date would mean a semester completely off from teaching!
And I totally understand on the career impact. Does your school have a policy on pausing the tenure clock? We can take an extra year to tenure to account for babies. It's not like you'll be able to do research or publish very easily with a newborn. I do wonder if it's easier to take time off in the humanities versus the sciences, since I can do almost all of my work from home whereas I'm guessing your work involves being in a lab.
Yes--I am very thankful that my college automatically pauses the tenure clock for one year for each baby. I am hoping that this family-friendly policy is a good omen for my future.
My August due date should allow me to do research most of the summer (we have a summer undergraduate research program that ends the day before my due date). So that part is good!
Thanks for the thoughts. I just recently started worrying about this issue when I realized that it was imminent, and of course I turned to the internet. Which, as always, is full of horror stories about universities that have NO maternity leave policies, etc.
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week?
We assembled the nursery furniture this weekend! Even though that part of the house is still in a construction zone and it's probably all going to have to be covered up with plastic at some point...at least it's assembled.
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now?
20s with lows in the single digits tonight, which is really cold for this area. No snow though!
4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most?
Like many others have mentioned, I'll miss being able to go out to spontaneous dinners or meet up with friends. Looking forward to seeing our little girl's personality develop - I can't wait to find out who she is!
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? not really. i got sick a lot more often this past weekend than any other time. i thought things were supposed to get better as you got closer to second tri?
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? cold, but not super cold yet. from today to tomorrow AM we're supposed to have a 40 degree drop in temps. it's dry though, so that's good.
4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? hmmmm, probably just the ability to have a random, unplanned night out. as for what i'm looking forward to i can't wait to see my DH as a father.
12 weeks 3 days 2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? I'm frustrated that insurance won't cover panorama. 3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? Tons of snow and -35, a very nice coworker picked me up lunch so I didn'thave toleave.
1. How far along are you this week? 25 weeks 3 days
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? Well, I did a whole post about my trip to labor and delivery this past weekend, so that would cover my vent. Saw the doc for follow up this morning, and just told to take it easy and stay on pelvic rest until the cramping stops which should be easy since dh is out of town for 11 more days for work.
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? It's a beautiful sunny 75 degrees at the beaches of Los Angeles today. Stay warm peeps in frozen tundra!
4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? I don't know how to put this in a "thing I miss most" statement, but I found it challenging to juggle my mom life with my non-mom life for a while. I learned that it comes with time. I am honestly looking forward to maternity leave this time. Last time it was short and stressful because I was the main breadwinner in my family (I made like double what my ex made which wasn't a lot in our high cost of living area). This time, I am in a much better financial position and am not the main breadwinner so I feel like I can relax a bit more on leave because I won't be constantly worried that we will miss a bill.
2. I've started having major pain in my groin area? Like the space between leg and pubic area? Majorly achey and sore there. Hard to get up and walking hurts.
3. FRIGID AND SNOWY. -15 right now, windchill -40. We have 8 inches of snow on the ground. Work was cancelled today. It means I'll have to use one more day for my maternity leave and I don't even care. Cuddled up today.
4. I suppose I think I'll miss the spontaneity of my life now. I don't have to plan out trips or evenings out with H. I'm most excited to just have this little bundle to cuddle with and raise and to get to know.
I'm right there with you! I asked my doc about it this morning and was told it's normal and to hang in there. 15 more weeks of joint pain!

1. 14 weeks, 2 days 2. No 3. Extremely cold. It's -1 right now. DD's preschool is closed today and will be closed tomorrow because of the cold. 4. I missed being able to do things without planning. I am looking forward to baby snuggles. They seriously grow up so fast. As soon as DD was mobile, she had no interest in being held. Also the new baby smell.
1. How far along are you this week? 33 weeks tomorrow!
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? We ordered the wall decals for the nursery on Saturday, so we're almost done! I'm painting the dresser sometime this/next week once I get to the store for paints and stuff. I feel like it's finally getting real. My shower is in 2 weeks too and I am so excited to see some family and friends that I haven't seen since we moved back.
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? We got 18 inches from yesterday to today. I worked from home today, H had to go in but he said the roads weren't too bad. It's really windy now, but it finally stopped snowing. I think it's supposed to get to like, -20 tonight.
4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? My sleep. I really really really like my sleep.
1. How far along are you this week? 9w6d 2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? After thinking I might be over the hump with the evening sickness (several day without it being an issue), I got nailed with a round of morning sickness this morning after breakfast. Closest I've come to throwing up yet; I was even worried that it might be the stomach bug that's been going around. I called in sick to work and went back to bed. 4 hours and a solid nap later, I am nibbling on saltines and sipping ginger ale and feeling much better. I am properly humbled now and will accept my evening sickness back! 3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? It snowed from Friday night on here and finally stopped yesterday afternoon. It was very cold this morning when I let the dog out but the sun is out now and it's supposed to hit mid-upper 30's. My parents and Sis/BIL are in IL and their windchill looks awful. I am worried about my dad having to go out and do chores (he is a farmer) and I hope he doesn't lose any of his cattle 4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? The ability to dictate my own schedule. On the flip side, I look forward to meeting this tiny human that I'm growing and seeing the world through his or her eyes
2. Getting anxious to finish everything. I have a few more meals to make. I think I felt some contractions this morning ( jarring pain). Meanwhile I'm trying to do house projects like painting doors. I have an electrician coming to move and install new kitchen fixtures and I might try to get new granite countertops. So unlike other third tri ladies, I'm hoping baby doesn't arrive early
3. It's chilly in DC but the major cold has not yet arrived.
4. Ftm, I will miss sleep! And disposable income. I can't wait to snuggle with him and make him all cozy (like cleaning and dressing him and then watching him drift off to sleep).

1. How far along are you this week?
37.5 weeks 2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week?
I can't believe I'm almost done. I finally feel like there is an end in sight. I saw the Dr. this weekend and he said that he wants to do another U/S and consider an induction if I get to 40 weeks, so I'm excited for another peek at our little guy but nervous about what it will show us 3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now?
Awful. We are having a cold streak, it was -65 with the wind yesterday and not much better today. We've been around -40 forever now. 4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most?
I will miss that we don't get a winter vacay this year! I think weekends away will be a lot harder now too. I'm most looking forward to seeing H as a dad. He's wanted a little one for a long time and I think he'll be amazing.
1. 16w3d 2. I'm starting to get a little bump. I feel validated to finally "look" pregnant. I've felt like an imposter on our trips to BBB and BRU so far when we're scoping out stuff to register for. Lol 3. About an inch of snow last night and frigid temps today. It's going to get into the negatives tonight!! 4. Sleep, H and I doing things on our own schedule, and ability to travel easily.
1. How far along are you this week? 10 weeks 4 days 2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? I ordered a bunch of Old Navy maternity stuff for super cheap right after the holidays, and it's supposed to be delivered today. Not gonna lie, if the jeans fit I'm putting away my pre-preg ones until next year. They are so uncomfortable by the end of the day. 3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? Pretty darn cold. -10 this morning when I left, I think it's 3 right now. But it's supposed to warm up to around 30 tomorrow and the rest of the week, so definitely not as bad as some other parts of the country. 4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? FTM here. I know I'll miss my sleep and our lazy weekends. We have a large group of friends, and I'll miss being able to make last minute non-kiddo friendly plans. But, I'll be holding our baby. Which after such a long time together for DH and I (12 years, 7 married), will be an amazing thing. So I think the trade off is pretty good.
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? I am getting really nervous about telling work that I am pregnant. I don't know of a tenure-track woman who has given birth recently, so I just don't know how they're going to react and I'm bracing for the worst.
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? Everyone is freaking the fuck out because it's 24 degrees and windy. LOL. No snow, though.
4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? Vegging at home; quiet
Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? I don't know? Babies are cute? (I never had baby fever so I'm really not sure what I'm doing here LOL)
I love your honesty and can totally relate on the work front. Deep breaths.. no friggin clue how or when I'll tell the boss about it.
I also relate to #4. No clue what i'm doing here either. We'll figure this out as we go. Hang in there :-)
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? GTT later this week...not looking forward to it!
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? It is 23 and sunny here in Western Colorado
4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? Being able to get up and go whenever I please.
1. How far along are you this week? 22.5 weeks- Thursday will be 23
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? Today at work I got my first pregnancy comment from someone who didn't know I was pregnant- apparently my bump is officially noticeable enough!
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? Cold and snowy- the high for tomorrow is 12, with a wind chill of -20. The rest of the week is supposed to be ok though- we got the worst of the storm last week (upstate NY)
4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? What I'll miss most? Sleep, lol, and probably the spontaneity that H and I have right now. Sometimes at 11PM, we'll randomly decide to go to the movies- no more of that once she's here! For what I'm looking forward to- waaay too much to list. I'm pg after a pretty serious IF struggle/diagnosis, and I still can't believe that I'm lucky enough to be here If I had to pick one thing- probably getting to see my H with her. Men with babies absolutely melt my heart, and he's going to be such a great dad

1. How far along are you this week? 33 weeks tomorrow
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? We put up our nursery wall decals when we were off on New Years Day! It's all really coming together, and I was really worried because the room is tiny. I can't wait to show people but we're keeping the name a secret and that's part of it, so it stays under wraps for now. Maybe I'll just post it on here soon-ish to get it out of my system.
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? About 30 degrees in MD, with a low of 7 degrees tonight. Not sure if we're going to work tomorrow...
4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? Will miss the ability to go places after work without stopping by daycare to pick up the kid first. I'm looking forward to seeing what the little guy looks like. I'm dying to know whether he'll have red hair as it really runs in our families, and my DH was a really cute kid.
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? My first real appt. with my new OB is tomorrow (I had an urgent care appt previously b/c of some spotting and being Rh negative). All the nurses I've talked to and the other OB I saw say he's really nice, but I'm highly skeptical of doctors until I actually meet them. Also, I had to take my 1 hour glucose test early because of having had GD previously, I failed, and now I have to do the 3hr this weekend. Blech.
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? 75 degrees and sunny!
4. For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Spontaneity. We are able to still do the same things we did previously, but it always requires more planning. Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? Infant sleep smiles. Those are just the cutest things ever.

1. How far along are you this week? 10 weeks and 6 days.
2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? I had another dr's appointment today. The dr used the doppler to check for the heartbeat and wasn't able to find it. I had read that sometimes it's hard to find the heartbeat with the doppler when you are early because the baby is small/moving around. And that if you have extra padding that can interfere (and I definitely have some extra padding). So I knew it could happen. But I was still nervous, obviously. I'm so glad dh was with me. He held my hand and told me it was ok. The dr. got the ultrasound machine and we were able to see a heartbeat! So thankful!! And it was nice to see the baby again. It looked more baby like this time
3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? It's in the low 70's here.
4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? I will miss sleep. I love sleep. A lot. I'm looking forward to so much.
1. How far along are you this week? 25 weeks 2. Any pregnancy related AWs, vents, or randoms you want to share this week? I am having crazy amounts of lower back pain, I don't think I had this issue last time, or if I did it was later on. I ordered a back/belly supporter today and hope that helps. 3. Popular topic on the boards this week- what is the weather like where you are right now? it was around 10 most of the day 4. For FTM, what thing do you think you'll miss most after baby? For STM+, what was the thing you missed most? Then on the opposite side, what are you looking forward to most? I miss sleep the most - I have always been someone who needs a ton of sleep and that's been gone the last few years. I'm so excited to have a tiny one again, DS is 4 and huge and has no interest in me carrying him around haha
