My parents are in their late 70's, have about 15 massive trees down and aren't expecting to have power until Friday or after. They have been clearing trees, cooking over a fire and are pretty damn cheerful considering it's 95 fucking degrees. I totally admire them.
Perhaps you should trim the brush yourself if it is such a terror for your family. Or call them to alert them of the issue. Maybe start a campaign for buried power lines.
I would suggest never trimming trees/brush near power lines. It is very dangerous. You do not even need to touch the line to get electrocuted. Even though I am pretty confident that this is a telecom line, if you have concerns you should call the power company (after the storm clean-up is complete). It is always better to err on the side of safety.

This post made me have to decide between laughter and horror that your children are being raised by you.
This exactly! Our power was out. DS1 loved it because we filled up his water table and baby pools, he got to eat out a bunch and got to go to the mall and pick out something small because we needed something to do to get the little baby out of the heat. His favorite part was using a flashlight and sleeping in the floor (all of our bedrooms are upstairs and it was soooooo hot up there. Now dh and I were annoyed with losing some food and having to spend money on eating out / change our plans, etc.... but we never even let him see that. Well except at one point when I told dh I felt like I was melting and couldn't take it anymore, but we just got in the car and went to chick fil a to enjoy the lovely ac and free wifi and even got some ice cream. Can you not get out of the house?
Our power was out for TWELVE days in November in the northeast after winter storm Alfred. It's was cold as hell. We survived. You will survive as well.
If you think your electric company is bad, you must not live in Maryland. Yours is probably better than mine (PEPCO).
Ahh, that's the power company they keep mentioning on the news. I was wondering WTF Petco had to do with severe storms.
They caused the severe storms in a twisted plot to terrorize small children and make them cringe in fear from all and any weather. Haven't you been reading along?
Tremble kids, PEPCO is sending you cirrus clouds today, mwhahahahahaha--hahahahaha-hahahahaha-ha
