Dad called during storytime last night. She'd been disabled for years, but I guess her heart was just done. I'm so sad...how do I even explain to DS1 that grandma won't be there when we fly to CA? Just yesterday on the way home from daycare he saw a plane and said, "I take plane to see grandma."
I'm sorry about your mom. Even when not unexpected, it's really hard. Our pediatrician recommends that for a two year old, you don't really tell them. Grandma is visiting a friend. Grandma is at work. They have no concept of death.
I'm so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts.
I can't tell how old your little one is, but I always like to recommend the book Lifetimes. It's very simple and matter of fact but explains things respectfully and leaves lots of room for you to add in your own religious beliefs if you want to. I got it when my LO was about 2 1/2 and it has been helpful in the losses we have experienced since then.

I am so sorry If you ever need to talk there are (sadly) lots of us on these boards that have lost parents. They have provided me with lots of support through the years. ::hugs::
