And he's a boy! I was so surprised, when my husband announced it, I actually said "Are you serious?". That's the fun of team green! CJ was born at 1:30 AM on Tuesday February 11th at 35 weeks, 3 days. He was 6 pounds, 1 ounce, 20 inches long. He would have been a giant at full term.
Birth story: My water broke at 6 PM on Monday, I had no signs of contractions at all. My doctor's office told us to go in and be prepared to be admitted. We were actually supposed to meet our doula that night to discuss labor comfort measures. I called my doula and told her to bring her birth bag! We got to the hospital at 8, which was during a shift change so I had to hang out in triage with a girl who was in a lot of pain, but not far enough along to be admitted. That was fun. I was on the monitors but baby was doing well and apparently I was having contractions. At 9:15 they checked me and told me I was 4 centimeters! And the baby was so low you could see his hair. (I'm a firm believer now that heartburn equals lots of hair). They admitted me and got us settled in our room.
The doula arrived around 9:45 and I was starting to feel some discomfort. I had to have an IV and antibiotics, because they hadn't done the GBS test yet. Things were starting to get more uncomfortable around 10:30, so we used some heat and bounced on the ball. At 1AM I was feeling a lot of pressure and they checked me and said I was 9 centimeters. I roared "That's not far enough". It was kind of hilarious looking back. I said if I couldn't push yet, I needed to use the bathroom. The nurse followed me in, saw how I was acting and made me get back to bed, saying "I'm not delivering another baby in the bathroom". She called the doctor in and we got ready to push. The doctor was really able to stretch me out, so he was born after 13 minutes of pushing with only minor tears in the labia.
He was evaluated by the NICU staff and we got to spend a little time with him, but he went to the NICU until about 6PM that night. His sugars were a little low but he was breathing really well on his own. We went home on Thursday between storms and he's been nursing like a champ. I'm so in love, and my DH, who I was worried wouldn't know what to do has been amazing.
