Besides cuddling with a kitty and drinking wine, I just watched the most recent Sister Wives that is On Demand (but I think I'm still one behind) and have now switched to Law and Order.
My MIL crochets but I don't know anyone who knits. I thought about taking a class, though. I've been wanting to learn for a few years now.
My MIL also crotchets and helped me a bit, but her skills are limited to double and single crochet. I do have a "crochet mentor" (lol), and she's been a great help!
I need to find someone who knits to teach me how. I've watched videos and always end up super overwhelmed.
This guy is reading on the couch. He's a 4th grader and I think he finally loves to read. He'll just up and read by himself! It's so cool to see! He used to never read without being told!
So, I'm crocheting, and I feel like it's really easy. I'm self-taught, through a book and you tube videos. lol
I've got the stitches down and can make a mean scarf/blanket (basically anything square or rectangular) BUT my issue is making all of my stitches consistently taut. Some are loose and others are tight. It makes my blankets kind of wavy along the edges. Boo.
Any tips?
It took me awhile to keep my tension consistent. Most people wrap the yarn around their pinky and ring fingers, but I hold it like this.Â
I had a hard time with tension until I started holding my yarn like that. ^^^
I'm like your MIL, but with knitting. I kind of need to move on to the nest level of skills, but I'm stuck. I wish we could get together and swap skill sets.
And I wish I could crash this party. I'll bring the wine!

I find that it is best to have a 'live' person help, especially in the beginning when you have panicky freak out moments (or is that only me?). It's nice to have a person there. Youtube is very helpful, but for me it was more for remembering things I had learned or adding to skills I already had.
Maybe there is a meetup group in your area? Also, check out any local yarn stores. There is often a group of people knitting in there.

Attachment Deleted Taking exaggerated selfies and sending them to a friend to cheer her up. I include the tag line "who am I?" Bc I am making fun of a mutual friend that actually posts real Attachment Deletedselfies like this on fb and Instagram all. The. Time.

Me too. I was determined to learn how to knit during the Winter Olympics back in 2006. Never really got over far and then my dog Luna chewed up one of my wooden knitting needles. (wilted)
I had a smokey eye. After making dinner (onions), cleaning the kitchen, and a lot of eye-rubbing, it is now a raccoon eye. Whatevs. I made a pretty face just for ML.
