I just read the safety record of the 777. Wow! Only 3 fatalities in 6.9 million flights, and those were from the San Francisco runway crash from last summer!
Recall the pilot who was able to land his plane on the Hudson River. My (smug) pilot friend was never super impressed because he (like the captain of the plane) said that they only followed the specific protocol of how to land over water. Their training is seriously amazing. I'm holding out hope for that to be the situation here, too.
Only 2 deaths. The third was a fire truck that ran over the girl. The 777 has an amazing safety record. This might be the first complete loss of aircraft.
I debated whether to write 2 or 3. I forgot that is how she died. I think some count her, too, because she was already injured. Don't know, don't care...tragic either way for that girl, and still an amazing safety record for the 777.
Can you imagine how much people would pay for a car that had that kind of a safety record?
It has been confirmed by Vietnamese media that Malaysia Airlines FLT 370 has crashed off the coast of Vietnam on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing . If you look at this pic from Flightradar24. It's shows the flight trajectory of China Airlines flt 782 currently operating From Saigon to Taipei Taiwan . If you look at it's track there is a circle off the coast of Da Nang. . The aircraft was asked to circle around this area which is believed to be the area where flt 370 went down . A few other aircraft were asked to do the same to see if they could pick up the flts Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT)signal . RIP to all who have perished
I'm heartbroken for all involved. Have they updated a reason for the crash?
I'm sure we won't find out for some time. They haven't located the wreckage yet, just some oil slicks near the area they are searching. And even once the black boxes are found, it will probably be days at least before the official report on what happened is released.
This whole thing just haunted me last night. Those poor people. I hope whatever happened was quick.
Me too. I just cannot imagine what those people were going through. I don't know what would make a plane like that go down so suddenly. It's all so tragic.
Those poor people. I hope it was fast and they didn't have time to realize what was happening. The ValuJet crash still haunts me. They said those people survived the crash and died in the Everglades
I hope so the news I am reading is that they have not seen the actual wreckage, just long 30 mile oil slicks on that area suspected as the site of the crash. This seems to me that this might be a worst case scenario.
