2 non-fics, which is interesting. Men We Reaped by Jessmyn Ward and In the Midst of Alarms: the Untold Story of Women in the War of 1812. I'm at the beginning of both. Both are fine. I am wishing I was curling up with a novel, but then I'd never get through my non-fiction pile. I hope to finish both before the end of the month, and then I'll be at least 2 books ahead of schedule for the year.
Still rereading Voyager (outlander #3). Which of course I still love. Between that and the easy A Walk in the Park, I feel a little more refreshed, reading-wise. Hopefully I can pick up the pace.
I'm still slogging through Otherland book 2. It's actually not a bad read, but I've been working a lot so I haven't had many chances to get into it and it's the kind of book that needs to be read more than a few pages at a time.
I think I need a shorter, easy read next. How is World War Z for speed? Most of the other books on my shelf are quite long! I'm also considering Bryson's In a Sunburned Country.
I don't have a book right now I finished Eleanor & Park earlier this week and I've been working my way through my stack of magazines. I'm picking up a big stack I have on hold at the library tomorrow:
The girls of Atomic City : the untold story of the women who helped win World War II Kiernan, Denise.
Double cross : the true story of the D-day spies Macintyre, Ben,
Ghost wars : the secret history of the CIA, Afghanistan, and bin Laden, from the Soviet invasion to September 10, 2001 Coll, Steve.
Just started Safe Harbor by AnnaLisa Grant (final of the trilogy). I got sucked in this past weekend and read the other 2 this week. So I guess you could say that I enjoy them. Some of it is a bit over the top romance wise (every other page is a bunch of "I love you so much") but the storyline is good and there is enough suspense to keep me invested. I'll have it finished by tomorrow. lol

I found WWZ to be a really quick read. The way it's written makes it go by fast and I found it hard to put down.

WWZ is pretty fast. I agree with PP about that. It's written sort of interview-style, after the Zombie War, with different people who experienced it in different ways and places, so there aren't really long paragraphs or pages without breaks to slog through. First person descriptions with some questions added in. I think I read most of it over 2 days, TBH, but part of that could have been a flight or road trip.
The Fall of Giants - Oh goodness this one is long but not too bad. I'm not sure I'm following the entire thing though.
All the Flowers in Shanghai - It's good so far. I am not sure I will like it as much as some of the other books I have read that are somewhat similar but I am only halfway through so that may change.
I started The Summer Garden but then took up the Shanghai book since it's a library book and the other isn't.
WWZ is great! Fun read and the interview style made the book easy to read.
I'm finishing up Taste of Darkness and a reread of The Eternity Cure before the last book in that series comes out next month. ToD is pretty good, Maria V Snyders trilogies tend to fizzle out after the first book but this is still pretty entertaining.
I'm on the last 50 pages of A Prayer for Owen Meany. Oh, thank god! As my DH is fond of saying, it was something, alright. Not sure what I'll pick up next.
The girl you left behind, Jojo Moyes - about a third of the way through and I like it. It was a long hard week and I feel sad when I read it - which had me avoiding it last night.

I just finished reading "Dark Places" by Gillian Flynn. I guess I liked it OK? I don't see me re-reading it, but I'm not upset about spending the money. I guess that's not such a shining review, huh? Her books get pretty good reviews, but I didn't want to read "Gone Girl" because everyone says that there are no likable characters, and I don't care for books like that. This one was OK. I wouldn't recommend it as a quick read, and I really did not like the resolution.
