How is it possible for such an expensive vacuum to be such a piece of shit? We have the DC50. The canister is SO small! I just emptied it, no lie, ten times, and I only vacuumed half the room. Then, the motor got overheated and it shut down. The motor is overheated because the filter is small and clogs after a few uses. It's supposed to be cleaned only once a month - ha! The filter takes 24 hrs to dry, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to finish vacuuming the room! That is straight up unacceptable for a $500 vacuum. I'm going to call them Monday and complain, but not optimistic that they'll do much.
I have a Shark navigator now and I love it. And it was so much cheaper. Still a canister, but it is a billion times easier to empty. The canister opened on the bottom AND the top, which makes getting everything out easy.
Plus I love that the canister portion detaches so you can carry it around when using it on stairs and furniture.
ETA: My dislike of the Dyson has nothing to do with the frequency of emptying the canister, and more that it was heavy, hard to maneuver, the canister sucked to empty, and that it worked great at first, but really really started sucking (puny!) after only about 8 months. Had it worked on multiple time over a few years, then finally said fuck it.
I knew that was going to make my house sound dirty! Lol. It's not. I have three dogs (two are Shepards that shed a LOT!), so I vacuum about every two days. I don't think that's unreasonable. I play with my baby on the floor, so I don't let it get gross at all. The vacuum is supposed to be FOR pet hair, and I'm not kidding when I say the canister is tiny. It just can't handle much. Maybe I'll take a pic when I'm done nursing.
Did you just get it? I had to empty mine I think 3 times for 1500sqft the first time, which just showed how much the old vac sucked (or didn't, as the case may be). So yeah, it's annoying to empty frequently that first time or 2, but you should be patting it on the head for what an awesome little vacuum it is! And once you get all of the deep down junk out of your carpet, if you stay on top of it, you won't have to empty NEARLY as often.
What on earth is on your floor that it had to be emptied 10 TIMES? I empty our canister a few times a year.
Smug vacuumer!! Not sure if that's a word, lol.
I have an Electrolux canister. I have to empty it once while vacuuming my house. Five animals yo. Plus the canister is small!
Yeah, the Shark canister is small, but it doesn't bug me. 4 animals here, so it fills up fast. But only the upstairs and stairs are carpet in our house, so I tend to have to empty it every other time (or occasionally during high shedding season one run will fill it up)
I have that vacuum and two siberian huskies. The house gets vacuumed twice/week and I don't think the canister is emptied more than once. We do have roombas running daily. Are your dogs blowing their coats? Too many of us have that vacuum for you to convince anyone yours is abnormally small.

You have 3 dogs and a vacuum that is actually picking up the hair now. Trust me, it might seem like you are keeping it clean, but the vacuum is picking up everything, even what you can't see. Dog hair is crazy. It's not the vacuum.

I kind of get excited when I have to keep emptying the canister. It's like popping a zit. Gross, but satisfying. It's nice to know that the years of accumulated pet fur is finally coming out after two cheapie vacs couldn't get the job done.
I know it's hard to see, but that black thing in the middle takes up almost the entire inside of the canister. You can see the max fill line in the back.
So, two fingers by five fingers worth of space, with most taken up by the black thing. TOO SMALL!

I hate it! All the dirt and hair just flies around! How is that clean? We empty ours outside so that shit isn't in the house. And it I don't empty it often enough, it clogs up and I have to manually pull that shit out. So disgusting.
Are you vacuuming that rug that is in the picture? If so, I can see part of your problem. You could probably vacuum a rug with shag pile like that 10 times in a row and still pick up a ton of dog hair.

Yeah, I agree that shag was a bad choice. The rest of the house is regular carpet and I empty the canister less, but the dogs don't really hang out there so there's less hair to begin with.

I have two similar rugs and only one dog, but those things just get covered in hair that you really can't see. I think once you have been doing it thoroughly and frequently for awhile, you will fill the canister less often.
