Hey, I just added you on MFP. I'm supposed to eat around 1450 calories a day when I exercise. I like it that I can exercise so I can eat those calories back.
Unfortunately, I love carbs and I have PCOS so I do have to limit them. I only buy whole grains so I can eat bread and some pasta once in a while.
I am also on the go and I'm a single mom on a budget so I pack everything for the day with me. I get most stuff ready the previous night and then finish up in the mornings.
I found that the more protein I have, the more satisfied I feel. So I usually have a good portion of chicken/steak and then eat a lot of veggies.
For snacks, I pack baby carrots, cucumbers, some whole grain crackers, low fat yogurt, nuts, cheese and ham. What are you planning to do to work out?
I think that does sound pretty low especially if you exercise but I would advocate for making sure that you are drinking enough water and having small meals. I always bring plenty of healthy snacks to work. I also would say I eat more like five to six small meals a day rather than 6 large.
I usually eat around 1,400 calories a day and my meals go something like this:
8am-Greek yogurt (lots of protein) with 1/2 of a banana and strawberries 10:30am-other half of the banana with 10 almonds 12:30-grilled chicken with a sweet potato 3:30-celery with all natural peanut butter 6:30-chicken salad with fresh vegetables, balsamic vinegar and olive oil
I also drink water with lemon throughout the day to stay hydrated.
I'm still figuring out a good routine for me and food. I am supposed to eat 1200 calories a day with exercise... I typically eat between that and 1300. Sometimes less than 1200 which I know is not good.
I really like the skinny rules by bob harper... there are a lot of things in the book that really make sense...
drink water when you wake up and before every meal eat protein with every meal no carbs after lunch don't drink calories
they are pretty simple
i don't lose weight when i count calories... i lose weight when I eat protein + veggies and little to no carbs. When I do this I still drink wine/beer and lose weight... I think it's sugar and chips/bread/fries that make me hold onto weight. Once I give those up it comes off quickly. After awhile I don't even care about or crave carbs/sugar anymore
I also think working out with weights will change your body more than cardio. I have been doing body pump 3x a week for 3 weeks and can already see a difference
I basically do what redvelvet does, except I do tend to count calories: 1200-1600/day depending on weight training cycles, how stressed I am etc. Cutting carbs after lunch works extremely well for me.

Slight hijack, but those of you who eat sweet potatoes as your carb source, give me some prep ideas. I'm not a huge fan, but they're really good for you....
