I am completely torn. I have an appointment scheduled for April 14. My hair is currently right below my bra line and I'm debating how short to cut my hair: trim the ends, cut to just below my shoulders, or cut to just above my shoulders but long enough for a pony. My friends and family are very mixed ("your hair looks good no matter what!" Flattering, thanks, but not helpful).
I have no fear of cutting my hair and in fact, I usually cut my hair off every 3-4 years. I'm coming up on 4 years and getting the itch. My hair grows quickly but reached this point after 3 years.
Pros of long hair: It's young and I'm still young enough for it Striking when I fix it properly, I get lots of compliments
Pros of mid length hair: Versatile My most flattering cut according to mom Easy to care for Cuts off my remaining ombre highlights
Pros of short hair: Cool, which is helpful with summer coming up Easy to fix (but I have to fix it) Cuts off my remaining highlights My H loooooves short hair

Hmmm...your long hair is GORGEOUS, but I am also someone who cuts my hair off every couple of years and then grows it back in, so I get the itch. In fact, I just did that in November, but I am 37, so I think I am not going to grow it out super long again.
I think you look great in the picture with the mid-length, and maybe you could start there and eventually go shorter if you wanted to. My hair is shorter than that...about chin-length, and I love it, but it is too short for a pony tail. I did that on purpose because I was sick of pulling my hair back all the time.

Me with a past haircut (a mid length)
My hair now (with grown out ombre)
My ideas for short hair (don't want bangs)
Your hair right now is stunning and I love it. But if you want a change I was going to suggest the pic you listed at the bottom as I have it pinned for when I chop mine off someday (if ever)- It would look awesome on you!

I would go to the mid-length like you posted and then see if you want to go shorter. I do like the option you posted for the short hair and think it would look nice on you.

I love your short hair inspiration pic! I think it would look so good on your with some blonde highlights. Go for it! Short hair is totally in right now anyway.

I think I'd like it mid-to-short, if that makes sense. I've already told you I think you're flawless, so it's not like you NEED the hair to help make you pretty.
I think your hair looks really pretty long but I like the inspiration pic you posted , I think you would look great both ways...so hard to decide but I would cut it. Like a pp said it will grow back.
Well my dear, I don't think you can go wrong whatever you chose because your long hair is beautiful and the mid length on you is super flattering but I think the short would be SUPER cute. I am always wanting a change with my hair too and I love that freeing feeling of doing something big with it. I would totally go for the shorter cut. It's the perfect time of year to do it and if you don't love it, it'll be the mid length before you know it!
I love your long hair and your grown out ombre. But I totally get the itch to want to cut it. I'll have had my short hair for a year come June and I am seriously over it. I want it to grow back out. Especially now that I've found gray hairs and my short hair now makes me feel old.
Is the appt before or after you go to Disney? Personally, I wouldn't do a drastic change just before vacation in case I hate it and have all these pictures from vacation with a terrible haircut.
I really say keep it long because you are young. Once you are old then that beautiful young color goes away. I say lots of layers and maybe some highlights or ombre!!
Long hair is hard to come by and yours is simply gorgeous!!!
Cut! I think your hair would look great short as well as long.
I cut mine this fall and have loved it shorter (just above shoulders). It's easy to blow dry but long enough I don't have to style it. Now I miss long hair and I'm growing it out but I don't regret the chop. I like change.
You have gorgeous hair. I love the pic of your mid length hair it's still long enough to put in a pony but cool for summer. Is your hair naturally that straight? I'm so jealous, my hair is wavy with random curls and gets frizzy.
no way I wish. it was when I was a kid, then my hair started being wavier when I was in college. it is randomly wavy on bottom (like 2B, sometimes 2C), not uniform waves, and frizzy. it is very straight on top, so when my hair is shorter, I rarely need my flat iron.
@mrsspunky, it is after. I purposely scheduled the appointment for after for the very reason you stated. no way am I messing with a new hair cut while on vacation!
I think this thread helped me with my decision. I was watching it all morning and liking the posts that told me to cut my hair. then I thought, "that's rude" and started liking everyone's posts, lol. then my afternoon got crazy and I just got home an hour ago. basically, when people told me to leave it, I was bummed. so I think I'll cut it up to the shortest layer and cut it blunt or maybe very lightly layered. I can always shorten it, and if I miss the long hair, it won't take as long to grow out.
thanks so much for all of your opinions! I value all of them!
