My friend and I are talking about a weekend trip in late January 2015. I'm in Albuquerque and she's in Austin. Neither of us want to go anywhere too cold. Suggestions for somewhere in the south that won't take more than one connection, has good food and things to keep us occupied? We discussed Atlanta as a possibility but I haven't done enough research to see what kinds of touristy things it has to offer. TIA!
New Orleans is out because I'm going with my husband later this year. For some reason, my friend hates Vegas so that's out. I'll check with her on SD and Miami though.

Atlanta isnt known as a warm winter destination!
FL? Miami, Key West, Sarasota, Tampa area would all work.
San Diego isnt exactly warm in the winter but it is nicer than about 99% of the US that time. Its not beach weather because while it can get up in the 70s during the day the Pacific ocean is COLD!!
Miami could work. You could also try Key West. It looks like you could get there with one stop on Delta, via ATL. Something like Charleston or Savannah could be fun, but they're not likely to be warm. I'm not very familiar with the weather in the western part of the country during that time.
