1.) I am going to take a 10 hour flight soon with my 15 month old tot. What is the best way to survive this hell? What kind of games, activities, toys will help distract her?
2.) what is the best way to change a toddler on the plane? Do you actually uses the changing table or do you find that it is impossible for their size? If it is pee, I just have my DH hold her up while I change her diaper in the bathroom. if it is poop, what should I do? Before we just used the table but we havent flown since she was seven months so she is a lot bigger.
3.) how do you handle time change? My LO only naps once a day. Will it be better to just let her nap twice a day until she adjusts to the time change? Or should I try to keep her schedule as best as possible?
Popping in to answer #2. DS is 21 months, and we just use the small changing table in the plane bathroom. I take a mat in, and his feet dangle off the end, but it all works out. Then we can wash both of our hands, and also use hand sanitizer once we leave the bathroom. It's a little bit of a pain, but definitely not unmanageable.
1) Coloring books, sticker books, window clings, lollipops, snacks that she doesn't normally get, books, new toys, and an ipad
2) I would use the changing table. If it doesn't work stand her up and do it that way.
3) Follow her cues, get her outside in the fresh air and sun as much as possible. You are flying West right? Jet lag for my kids is way worse flying west than east, so it takes us a couple of days minimum to adjust. I wouldn't let her nap more than normal though.
Play-do and an etch-a-sketch were big hits at that age for travel. I also, to this day, always travel with a toy "surprise."
I try not to let DD sleep at off-times when we travel. We try to just power through the first day and keep things as on-schedule as possible. Generally, when we travel east, she sleeps later in the morning and when we travel west, she wakes earlier. So when she was younger (and still napping), I would adjust nap times according to wake up time, but not add in an extra nap or anything.
