How do I want to travel between these two cities? We'll be leaving Rome on Monday, Sep. 1. All of my research was suggesting to take the train to Naples...but then it looked like another train to Sorrento, and then a bus to Positano.
Is that really the best option? What about a train from Rome into Salerno, and then a bus or ferry to Positano? That seems easier, but I could be missing something.
I'm also reading people suggesting the ferry vs the bus, depending on where you stay in Positano. If that matters, this is our hotel: www.villarosapositano.it/en/
TIA! I'm pretty confident in planning our trips, but this section has me a little unsure.
ETA: I know Salerno is past where we need to be, but I thought one less transfer might ultimately save some time, and be more convenient.
Its been a couple of years since I've done this, but I think we took the train to Naples, then the little train to Sorrento, then a bus to Positano. None if it was complicated and worked out well for us. If I remember correctly we didn't take a ferry to Positano because it was too early in the season (end of April).
I loved Positano so have a great time! I also really enjoyed Sorrento so if you have time I'd spend a little time there too.

We also took the train from Rome to Naples and did a private transfer from Naples to Positano. We used Sorrento Cars (I guess they're now called Leonardo Travels). They were great and also included a stop over for us in Pompeii for a very small charge. I'd definitely use them again.

I second Joe Banana Limos. We had them for our day in port along the Amalfi Coast. The car and driver (Lalo) were terrific. He's from Sorrento and you could really tell his pride in the city and the area.
Also, if anyone gets even a little car sick, I really recommend medicating before you do Naples --> Postiano. There are extremely winding roads and most drivers, IMO, are not cautious on the curves.
