I need to follow suit with you ladies and tell my H to handle his own mom. She and I don't get along and yet I handle getting her a lovely gift every year. Actually, multiple gifts since I also choose Christmas and birthday gifts.
My mom is really hard to buy for. I'll probably send flowers.

We usually get a pretty hanging flower basket or flowering potted something for both my mom and StepMIL. We don't acknowledge H's mom, I've only met her twice.

Oh, I forgot the other half! I was going to say that I obviously don't get my mom anything, but I realized that that's not true. Every Mother's Day, my dad and my brothers go out and "play golf" with my mom. We dumped her ashes in the ocean off a beach in NH. They bring a couple of golf clubs and hit balls into the water. Sounds kind of sweet, until you think that they're actually pelting her with the balls. At any rate, I always send them a sleeve of golf balls.

Our trip back home goes over Mother's Day. I'll probably have the kids make something for my mom while we are at their house. My mil gets me and the kids at her house (without dh) on Mother's Day and the kids can draw her some pictures. Of course being with mil on Mother's Day means I don't get to do anything special for me.
My first Mother's Day, my MIL gave me a card that said "thanks for being such a great mother to Lincoln and a good wife to Jake." Apparently she thinks I'm a better mom than wife?
My mom has been asking for a new wallet for awhile now, so I got her a really pretty one.
MIL... I offered to take her and A to Penny's to get their pictures taken together. It'll be fit mother's day and her birthday. If I leave gifts up to dh, he spends way too much.

I think I maybe got a card from my miL? I can't remember jack shit. Eta: Lou gets something for my sister since she's his godmother. I don't remember what I got her the past two years though.
We usually get them things for their gardens. MIL is big into garden ornaments so she always asks for those (specifically frog themed ones). My mom usually gets a gift cert to get her vegetable garden going or specific gardening things my dad tells me she wants. They are super easy Mother's Day people to buy for!

Haha! At least you know where you Stand with her...
I used to get both my mom and mil potted flowers from a greenhouse, and the last 2 yrs I've been doing something with Blake's footprints, cutesy stuff. My sister is creative and her cutesy ideas blow mine away! Lol. I'm just trying to plan something ahead of time because otherwise we end up getting something last minute which is usually no good. If I left presents up to my H they would get nothing. It seems like flowers are a winner.

The girls had school pics recently that I'm waiting to see how they turned out. For MIL maybe ill photoshop myself into the pic I was excluded from and blow up into a giant canvas.
