I;d want her gone from RMDH and let the Jr League know what type of people are trying to get into their "inner circle" ( yeah, thats what I call it, because if you volunteer, you should WANT to do it, not do it to get into a club or stay a member of that club) I know Jr. League does a lot of good, but the local one by me is filled with people who just want to social climb and think they are better than others. My 2 SIL's are in it and I could be, but I'd rather give my time and money as I see the need, not be told where and when to volunteer. okay..I am off my rant now.
Thanks! I'll contact them right now! I really appreciate you looking this up for me.
No worries! The JL women I have met would be horrified by her behavior and would never want to accept her as a member.
Thank you for volunteering! I used to volunteer at a Children's Hospital and it was one of the best and worst experiences at the same time. Now that I have a little one, it would be even harder for me to see sick kids. It rips my heart out.

Good for you for speaking up, please please tell us how it goes.
Thank you for volunteering! I worked with the RMH a few times in the past. I never really knew what it was about, and my friend was coordinating dinners on the weekends for the people staying there. We would go in mid afternoon and cook for awhile with enough food to feed everyone. I learned a lot of what they do, and I think it is amazing!
Coordinator called me back - said the woman will be removed from RMH immediately as a volunteer. She also said she will also contact the Junior League to back up my claim, and in her words "Those are not the bunch of ladies you'd want to piss off, they'll fry her, and make it so she can't participate in any other service/volunteer position or organization again in Houston."
She said she has the President's direct email and will contact her there.

I'm so happy and relieved about all this.
Wow! Good! The last thing those families need is a toxic person in the house. They're going through enough shit.
And thanks for posting about the RMH. I just called the one located a block from my job to see if there were any items they needed. At the moment I can't donate my time (JUST moved 1hr 20 min away from here) but I can certainly donate some supplies. I'm going shopping at lunch and dropping it off before I go home.
You've inspired me to volunteer at my local RMH. I just downloaded the application.
This made me get a little teary, and probably one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. It's a great organization, and you'll love it. A lot of the parents will stay in touch after they leave too, which is great since a lot of these families stay here long term for a year or much longer.

That's awesome! They always need things for the food pantry, cleaning supplies and books. That's such an awesome thing for you to do!
What a selfish bitch! I'm so glad you called her out and are willing to give the bad review and hopefully let the other parties know about her true character.

She is an appalling human being, and I'd love the "cockroach that got in the front door" analogy if it didn't insult cockroaches. I would definitely write this up, including the fact that she said this in front of the pt as well as the networking references she made. I hope she doesn't get moved. I hope they fire her sorry ass. I'm all kinds of understanding about being outside our comfort zone when we volunteer sometimes; when I volunteer at the cancer facillity that treated my husband I specifically asked not to be placed in his clinic. But when I encounter a neurological cancer patient by chance I don't recoil in revulsion because I have empathy and I'm not in it for the career opportunities. She. Has. To. Go.
ETA: I was so maddened by your op I didn't read all the way through. Sounds like it is being handled perfectly! Thanks for your service at your RMH and for not letting this issue slide.

Good for you on all fronts....I got to go to the local RMH for a day with a group from work and we cleaned the rooms, and the toys and made cookie dough. It was nice and what an awesome place!

Awesome update. This brought tears to my eyes. I have no idea how someone could be so mean to a child that is obviously hurting. I don't know how you have to strength to do that type of work. I would love to volunteer but I'm worried I would cry the whole time.

Awesome update. My "nephew" was at RMH when he was a newborn because he was a preemie and had a lot of problems. The place was really a Godsend for the family.
Well now you've gone and done it, Betty. I emailed our local RMH to see what I need to do to sign up for Cooking for Families. I think I can make once a month or once a quarter work for me and the boys.
If any DC area peeps would like to join in on the fun, let me know.

Ooh, I'm going to have to look into this for the Boston RMH. I love, love, love donating meals to families in crisis. What a great way to get the kids involved, too. They can make dessert, or the salad or whatnot. Great service, great idea!

Betty, Thanks for putting it on my radar. The funny thing is my old college apartment building is now the parking lot to this RMH.
They needed supermarket gift cards (for the families) and the director told me they were down to their last $10 g/c so she was super happy to see me. The place is BEAUTIFUL and the staff is super friendly. Of course she has my email and telephone number so hopefully I will be able to assist once in awhile, even if it means giving up my lunch hour.
I can't wait to move back down here so I can commit to volunteering for them on a regular basis. I'm so happy! LOL!
Hooray for getting rid of that bitch! I used to work retail near to a RMH. The families would come if fairly often and I got to know some of them. How can anyone look at them and think such horrible thoughts?

let me know what you find out. I'm actually near there a lot because it's right near Joslin.
