We will be there for a couple of days this week (tomorrow-Saturday). What should I do with E? My H will be in depositions all day tomorrow and Friday. I don't think I've really been west of the Natick Mall before (other than quickly driving through).

Where in western MA? Holyoke has a children's museum (and I think the carousel is there, too) and a mall (if it's cold), Springfield has a zoo in a really nice park as well as the Dr. Seuss Memorial, Northampton has cute shops and restaurants, and Amherst has the Eric Carle museum. I'm going to stop until you tell me where you're going, though, so I don't keep listing things that have no value, heh.

These are all really good suggestions. The zoo is in Forest Park, so you can probably go for a walk there. If the weather is nice, there might be paddle boats, but I can't remember if I'm confusing that with Look Park in Northampton.
If you wanted to venture further out, you could easily drive out to Stockbridge and Lenox area for a day trip, and go to the Norman Rockwell Museum, Ventford Hall (which was way cooler than I thought it was going to be), and have lunch at the Red Lion Inn.
There's also a few breweries in the area. Paper City Brewing Company, and a few in Northampton and Amherst.

That's pretty centrally located, so the Childrens museum/merry-go-round in Holyoke is maybe 20 minutes from there? The Forest Park zoo is just a couple of miles away. Oh, and Westfield has a childrens museum, too - www.ameliaparkmuseum.org/home.html
The Dr. Seuss memorial is right where the museums are, not too far from your hotel, though I wouldn't walk it. There's a science museum and a couple of art museums there. (Maybe not so fun for E, but something to wander around and take a look at if it's cold out)
You can also make it to the Yankee Candle flagship store out in Deefield in about a half hour or so. It's yooooooooooooooooooge. The mall in Holyoke is fairly large; I haven't been years, so I can't speak to what's there any more.

If it is nice out, you can drive up several mountains and enjoy the view and picnic from the top. Mt. Sugarloaf may not be too far.
I second the Dr. Seuss museum and yankee candle. Look Park in Florence may be a little drive but is nice. Picnic areas, playgrounds, and a petting zoo.
You've gotten some great suggestions! I would second/add:
Forest Park in Springfield (bring bread to feed the ducks) Zoo in Ludlow Yankee Candle in Deerfield Shopping in Northampton (or dinner with your husband if he'll be around...there are lots of great restaurants there)
