My BIL illustrated a book that his cousin wrote, and the original contract stated they wouldn't be giving him any rights/compensation for his work... and then they sent him a new one that gives him 20% of royalties.
Is anyone willing to look over the contract and make sure he's not getting screwed over? It's all in legalese and my BIL (let alone my M/FIL) can't read it without feeling stupid and not knowing whether or not he's getting a good deal.

Bumping this because I still need help. If anyone knows how to read a contract from a company to know if we're getting screwed or not, please let me know. This whole situation (while not directly involving me) is making for some possible family drama and my BIL being screwed out of credit/payment for his artwork and possibly being charged up the wazoo by the publishing company for 'miscellaneous expenses' or something if he signs the contract.
Easter may be a very uncomfortable holiday this year if we can't get this straightened out.
I think if this thread were on MM, someone would have replied with "what you're asking for is legal advice. No one can give it to you unless you retain their services". Sorry that this isn't the most helpful answer.

I totally agree.
It's not my problem, really. It's ultimately up to my BIL if he wants to go forward with it or not. Thanks!
