Nebraska is not cold. Also, not very snowy. Then again, I live in the frozen northland now, so it's all relative.
I live in Omaha and yes its cold and snowy. Dont fool yourself. Each winter is different though. This last one was freezing with barely any snow. Some winters we get blizzards.

Yeah, Nebraska can have brutal winters, but I think Julez is just saying that relative to MN winters, they aren't that bad. I've been caught in ice storms in Nebraska coming back from ski trips to Colorado.

My dad was stationed to Nebraska, and that's where he ended up retiring and living once he was out. I still live in the general area, and it's definitely not terrible. I know it's already been said, but Omaha (and the metro) really is a great area with a lot of great things going on. :-)
South Dakota is terrible. You couldn't pay me to live there, in any part of the state. It's boring as hell. Also, I should have known the place wasn't for me when I saw the billboard on the way in about hunting and furs being a way of life in SD, and if you didn't like it you could get the hell out. Then every billboard after was an anti-abortion message. Not my scene.
Nebraska DOES get cold and the winters last forever. Omaha is the only place I would reside in Nebraska. As others, said, it is a pretty nice size, has great options for entertainment, and the food scene is heating up. My husband and I visit Omaha often and love it. My brother lives there in a downtown loft and his place makes me swoon. Lincoln, where NU is, is the worst. But, you can go to some great football games.
All that said, I would still probably pick Idaho if I were you. Looks beautiful.
I don't know the back story here, but I would choose Idaho of those. Well, really only Boise. Northern ID is gorgeous but kind of full of white supremacists/compound militia types, and southern ID is a bit barren and full of Mormons.
Lurking: I live in Pocatello and I'm NOT mormon .
Also want to add that Idaho is beautiful! I love it here. I'm an implant from WI and have lived here now for 14 yrs. I also lived in Boise for a yr. You can't go wrong with ID, it's a pretty easy way of life.

My ILs live in southern ID and are also not Mormon. But a huge LDS temple was built in their town a few years back, so the demand is definitely there!

Oh yes, those temples pop up pretty quickly, and the demand is here. I'm still shocked our town doesn't have one, it's just a matter of time.
He's in Korea right now so that would not be ideal.
Oh, gotcha. Lol, and those are the three best options he can get after a remote? Really? Bullshit
Actually, for the AF, those aren't bad options. We don't have a ton of bases in really great locations, but everyone I know who had been at either of those three bases have loved it. It's all what you make of it really. And depending on OP's husband's career field is, he might not have a ton of options (my job is like that...)

Lol, there are tons of great options for AF bases. And I know tons of people who haven't liked those bases, especially SD. Yes, it's what you make of it, but I would be much happier at Eglin or charleston or Travis or Peterson or overseas etc etc etc..
Driving. With 3 dogs. By the time we got our orders, there were no ferries available.
Can I come visit? I've always wanted to visit Alaska!
OMG. Yes, please. I would absolutely love for you to come visit. I'll also be in CA/L.A. a couple times this year. My little bro is getting married and I'm his maid of honor (squeee!). I totally want to meet up with you. You are my type of people!
