Pay off msniq's student loans: $29k Put enough money into investments that mom can be comfortable: $271k.
Give the remaining $700k to deworm the world, which is I think still the most cost effective charity out there. If it isn't, something to provide safe drinking water.
1) Pay off all of my mom's debt and add to her retirement, so she has a little breathing room. 2) Pay off all of our IL's debt. 3) Pay off H's aunt's debt and add to her retirement. 4) Pay off my SIL's debt and pay for their IF treatments. If they got pregnant, college account for their kids. 5) Pay off my brother's debt and fund a retirement account for him. 6) If anything is left, donate to our local emergency shelter.
We'd pay off BIL's mortgage to make his life a little easier and start education trusts for both nephews. We'd also start a trust for my sister's future children.
I'd like to give an endowment to a local service organization that I'm involved with that would enable them to support even more local charities.
With the rest of it, we'd start a charitable foundation of some sort. DH and I have always wanted to start a program for women in our area who come from abusive situations to give them education/job training, help them find employment, learn how to budget, etc. Not sure exactly what our foundation would end up looking like, but definitely something that helps women and children.
Pay off my parents mortgage. Put half mil into an investment account to gain returns to be used specifically to fund mission trips to poor countries. Use the rest (~300k) to start traveling to poor countries and donate/volunteer where needed.
I would put money in a college find for my niece. Give 100K to my brother and my SIL ($200k total); I would want to give money to my ILs if they promise not to spend it on my STBXH
I would set divide up the rest between local charities and setting up a college scholarship fund at the community college I work for.
pay off my younger sisters college loans and give $$ for retirement to my older sister and my parents. as well as putting my Gma in the nursing home she wants to be in but cant afford
