Yeah, I'm torn on this. I always like edible favors, but should I really have giant cookies for a one year old party where most of the kids are in fact around age one? Would the parents be annoyed?
I bought little Sesame Street bubbles for B's birthday party this weekend. There'll be all of 3 kids there (B, my nephew, and my niece) because we're just doing family. I went to my nephew's 4th birthday last weekend and there were no favors, although he did give B a sticker when he arrived.
We're new at the birthday party circuit, but all DS got from the last one was a handful of pinata candy. He ate it in a day or two. That's perfect for us.

I personally would not care.
The cookies at our 1yo's party were for the adults who brought the kids. XD
Did you do anything for the kids too? I need ideas! Giant cookies are kind of my favorite thing in the world but I didn't want to anger the healthy hippy moms....
I don't care either way, but when they get older it is something the kids like to look at on the way home. I think the best one my son got was a take and bake pizza. It was sort of an oddball party time and I think it ended at like 11:15 or something. The theme was ninja turtles and they wrote the instructions like it was from the turtles.

I don't think I've ever been to a party that didn't have favors. I don't think it would really register, though. I'd much rather no favor than random junk that will just end up at the bottom of the toy box the next day. Edibles are best, IMO.
Depending on the age of the kid, they might be expecting favors. No lie, I had a kid keep asking me repeatedly at DS' party where the favors were from the moment he got there.

We didn't do goody bags for DS' last party, but we did let kids take home parts of the decorations if they wanted to - balloons, little trucks we used to decorate the tables, and plastic construction hats. Usually a goody bag is just junk anyway.

I wouldn't be offended if my kid didn't get a favor but she would probably wonder why she didn't get something, because party favors are the norm. The last two birthdays she attended, she got to take home a helium balloon that was part of the decorations. That was enough of a favor for her.
My DD's party is in two weeks and we're giving out books from her Scholastic book order. I think the kids (and parents) will like them.

I'm planning on making cookies for dd's party too. They are for the adults really as there will only be 3 kids. They aren't favors though, they will just be out with the cake. If she got one as a favor I wouldn't give much to her anyway and eat it myself .

Same here.
I'll probably do little favors with a few stickers and some bubbles for DD. I wouldn't bother but everyone else does them here.
DS's party is on Saturday. We're cutting the backs off t-shirts and making them into superhero capes. Also we're doing a piƱata. I thought just the candy would be fine. DH said we had to have "something". Which is crap, because we didn't have favors for any parties until DD was 6, I think, which ended up being a snack.
Tell me more about this shirt cape thing please. Dd suit got invited to a superhero party and needs a cape.

I'm completely okay with no favors. Trinkets and candy get to be too much after awhile.
For my kids' parties I try to do a craft that they can take home or include a free pass for an activity (bowling pass at the bowling party, open gym for the gymnastics party, etc).
I don't care, but my older kids and their friends do. Right or wrong, they all seem to expect a favor. A lot of people around here do one or two "nicer" items rather than a goodie bag of cheap crap. I like that approach.
I think from 0-3 yo or so, the kids don't really care, so no reason to do them unless you just want to.
