On the phone with the shelter. The part where she came in to try to get Phoebe out is true. The part where she left with her is not. Also, the part where Phoeb was relinquished by a woman is not true. Poor baby Phoebe is still there. My heart breaks.
Did she not leave with her because they wouldn't release Phoebe?
Phoebe was in heat so she wouldn't have been released. You can't spay a dog in heat. I don't think they are going to let me disclose why they wouldn't let her leave. They are confirming I am who I say I am now.

I am so glad you called.
The Truth: Phoebe ran away. Shelter took her in. Vaba went to claim her. Shelter would not give her back. Because, well, the crazy.

I know that by the time this is posted there will be 335839845 more people asking this but I haven't asked a lot of questions yet so humor me
Did Phoebe stay in the shelter because the shelter decided to keep her, or because Vaba gave up on trying to get her back? What were the circumstances surrounding the shelter keeping Phoebe? Are they not able to answer those questions?
I also can't believe that sweet little PUPPY hasn't been scooped up yet.
She'll go fast-- at her age, size, being female, and having such a cutiepie appearance, I would be seriously surprised if she is in any danger of staying there terribly long. She's a perfect sized/aged family dog.
I guess she was so far in with the money that she felt like she needed to lie about actually getting the dog back instead of, you know, not accepting the money.
This is disgusting. Also - I have to actually do some work, and then take care of a 2yr old for 24hrs. A lovely but very needy 2 yr old. Can these revelations wait until Monday? I'm off work then. =0)

That's what I mean, I'm surprised it hasn't happened already. I'm sure she'll find a loving home (either an MLers or otherwise, lol) with that face.

I'm not a regular but did get really invested in the whole dog-thread. And in all of the stuff over the last few days. This is the first time I've felt the need to reply.
When I started getting doubts about the story (and called the shelter) I thought maybe she gave her dog up and just came here to create a sad sob story about it. I think she came here and posted about the dog on 3/21
WELL I GUESS THAT'S WHY THERE WERE NO PICTURES AFTER THE FACT. AND WHY SHE SAW HER DOG'S PICTURE ON THEIR WEBSITE. BECAUSE SHE PUT HER THERE!
That's the dog she showed us photos of too. The puppy and "Here she is, I'm giving hugs to her right now at the shelter!"

But she's already been there a month Poor baby.
If she was in heat maybe they had to wait to fix her and she is ready for adoption now?
apalettepassion.wordpress.com/ WHO IS BONQUIQUI!?!?!?!??!

How in the world did you frame this request for info?
Also, does this mean Phoebe was relinquished by a man? Found on the street? What?
I am assuming, here, but I thought that it means that the mom-friend was made up and vaba relinquished in-person then tried to change her mind later but ended up leaving without the dog.

This is what I'm thinking. She thought she'd get hair pats for the sob story and didn't realize how outraged the board was going to become, giving her suggestions to get the dog, call the police, etc. So she just went along with it and got $280.00
I just wanted to clarify that when I called, I didn't know Vaba's name or anything. I just asked if the shelter was holding a dog hostage and if the police were involved because there was currently an online donation fund to free a dog from this shelter. And the person I spoke with was like, WTF? No. That is not happening here right now.
Every time I think "ok, this is it. It can't get crazier" it gets fucking crazier.
DH made the mistake last night of saying "So you were trying to tell me the drama of the board last night and gave up, what's going on?" So I gave him a quick summary. He's going to love tonight's update.

She might not have been on the main floor yet due to being in heat. The heat cycle can be very long.
