Brought to you by a conversation between FI and I while creating our wedding registry. What was your most expensive registry item for wedding, baby shower, what have you, and where do you think the price starts to cross into unreasonable territory?
So far the most expensive item on ours is a comforter set for $130.00. Registries make me feel weird and I'm paranoid that some of the items are too pricey. What say you, ML?
ETA: Also, what are some of the most ridiculous things you've seen on other people's registries?

Wine fridge? I think it was around $100. Baby was our furniture, but I told my brother to buy it for us and he did (As a combo xmas and baby gift. I'm not that gift grabby.)
$300ish for a Le Creuset dutch oven. Lots of family went in together for that and a nice skillet. Group gifts are the norm among my aunts and uncles, so I didn't feel bad for putting some higher priced items on there.

I think it was our cookware set for $600. Put as much on there as you want as long as you have a variety of things at different price points. Grandmas may get pearl clutchy but I pretty sure 95% of your guests will know about registry discounts and gift cards. Also, some people like to do group gifts for big things give them that option.
A Simple Human trash can. No, seriously. It was like $150. And it changed my life forever.
OK, what are Simple Human trash cans? What makes them so special that they cost $150? I've seen them mentioned a few times around here and my curiousity is piqued.
Can't remember our wedding registry but we put our uppababy vista stroller on our registry. I wouldn't stress about putting expensive items on your registry, as long as you have a wide range of items including lower priced ones.

We just did a big range of items, but the most expensive item was a Dyson Animal. My parents bought it. We just added it to buy with the registry completion discount.
Like PP's said, people bought according to their own situations.

Only the greatest trash cans known to humans.
Basically, they're well made. And you step on them to open them. And they are shiny.
My Dyson. I had a really small shower (maybe 7 people) and my mom, MIL, sister and my sister's SIL all chipped in for it. I was shocked and really moved, I think I cried. My shower was a total surprise since it was a second marriage with less than 40 people invited. I registered to take advantage of the discount.
The most expensive thing on our baby registry is an $80 car seat base. I don't expect anyone to buy it, I just want the discount.
I judged a friend years ago for putting a patio set worth thousands of dollars on her bridal registry until I found out she was planning on buying it anyway and wanted the 10% off.
Most ridiculous thing lately - 7 different sets of dinnerware. I have no idea which one they really wanted. Turns out their kid was misbehaving so they gave her the registry gun and she went to town with it. Then they didn't bother to go in later and remove the ones they didn't want.

We put a $200 camera on ours (our previous camera was ruined when H jumped in the lake with it and we wanted a nice camera for our HM). My parents ended up buying it for us as a wedding gift.

I think our HBC (Hudson's Bay Co) Point Blanket was the most expensive wedding item. More than anything on our baby registry for sure. My parents bought it.
Ours was the kitchenaid mixer. We didn't add it expecting anyone to buy it but for the registry discount after the wedding. Well a few of FI's uncles went in together and got it for us so I guess some of the bigger ticket items work for group gifts. My side of the family is known for doing the group gifts for bigger items too. Be it strollers or mixers. Lol
