Ok, but you know what else is an environmental nightmare?
Starbucks coffee cups.
Tons of other things.
Disposable diapers.
Crotch fruit.
Well then, we should all just give it all up entirely. Prepackaged everything! Leave your car running all night so it's nice and warm/cool in the morning!

Totally not the same.
I am not going to feel bad about a plastic k-cup when there are tons of other things I do to mitigate my carbon footprint.
It's ridiculous to draw the line here and make k-cups the nightmare.
Admittedly, it's extra irksome to get such criticism from folks who fill trash bags up with disposable diapers. Or other convenience kid items.

LMAO. mmmkay. I didn't say you had to feel bad. I think the coffee is shitty and the plastic they use is NOT recyclable, and disproportionately "large" vis a vis the size of the cup of coffee you're getting. I have kids, I have my own anti-environmental foibles, I make my own efforts to "mitigate my carbon footprint." Not using K cups is one of them.

I use cloth diapers. And cloth wipes. And cloth nursing pads. And a diva cup. And dishrags. And cloth snack bags. And cloth napkins. :-p Eta: but my bottom line truly is that I refuse to drink shitty coffee. I grind my own beans and use my own espresso machine.
I'm not trying to convince anyone. They are an environmental nightmare, as are MANY OTHER THINGS which you so helpfully pointed out. But that is neither here nor there. I mean, the fact that Gisele is totally gorgeous does not prevent me from also being totally gorgeous.
I am seriously in awe of this. It's enough that I have clean underwear.
Cloth nursing pads? Wow.
1. They're more comfortable than disposable ones. As are cloth diapers, I imagine. Ella has a nice squishy bum--the paper diapers are so scratchy in comparison.
2. Also, a kcup is a delivery system, not a coffee brand. So saying they are "good coffee" or "bad coffee" makes no sense. We buy the fog chaser, which is a decent coffee and okay-ish for the environment (we snap off the plastic top and compost the bottom).

I disagree, so many things matter for good coffee, including water temp, pressure, etc so the machine you use makes a huge difference. There is something off about Keurig coffee.
I got a box of these from Costco. 97% biodegradable isn't that bad is it..... (Trying to make myself feel better for buying a CARTON of K-cups! I think there were like 80 in the box for $25. Not bad!)
They look like this: It's basically a paper coffee filter packet with a rim.
I have a reusable k-cup that is messy but I will use once this huge box is gone because the coffee ain't great.
It's the "pods: and yes, and they're better for the environment.
I use to order those from Amazon. The "Fogchaser" is the best flavor.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaand I just ordered these. Thank you! lol
I love my Keurig. I don't buy multiple flavors of coffee or tea like it was advertised. I have my set coffee and it's Starbucks House Blend from Costco. I think it tastes great and makes a perfect cup for my high-end palate .
What I like about the K-Cup is it brews a cup that tastes perfectly brewed, not too weak, not too strong. I could never master a coffee maker, either the beans were ground to finely or not enough, there wasn't enough grounds to water or too much water to grounds. K-cups eliminated that. Plus I'm the kind of person who needs things to be very simple before I have a cup of coffee. The K-cup, you put it in and press a button.

i wont touch the environmental debate and turn this into the Great K-Cup Debate of 2014 ML version, but i did learn during that that kurieg is going to start putting scanners in their machines so they will only be able to work with k-cup pods and no reusable filters or knockoff brands. each pod will have a number on it, just like your printer prints an invisible footprint on every paper you print, and if the scanner in the machine can't read the numbers, it wont brew the drink.
Really? I hope they don't actually do this. That's crappy of them. I mainly use it for a cup of hot water for my tea. I would never repurchase a new one if this is the case.

What?? That is bullshit!! I guess my next coffee maker will be a knock-off Keurig then. I like that I can make one cup at a time but I don't want preground coffee. Blech. I want to use my OWN DAMN COFFEE.
